Hi there. I am in the TFC2 beta as it came free with my HD2900XT. However i cannot get more than 2 minutes of game play before it crashes

Q6600
Abit IP35 pro
4gb Gskill HZ
Vista 64bit.
3x500gb Samsung in Raid 0

i have tried everything under the sun i think. -windowed allows me to see the dude with the valve on his head now. -console -autoconfig -dx 80 or whatever. Disabling all the AA AF FSA doesnt work. There was a patch yesterday that apparently fixed the following:
Bug fixes
Removed background map due to incompatibilities
Fixed a Direct3d device restore problem causing crash and/or black screen
Fixed Windows Vista crash bug
Fixed achievement manager crash
Fixed occasional sniper zoom crash

But it still constantly crashes on my machine. Anyone else have this problem? or have a solution? (and yes i know its a beta but it pains me to see ppl playing it and i only get 20seconds-300 seconds of play)

My TF2 crashes like yours when I first installed it and I am also running Vista. Try using the launch option -fullscreen -width 1920 -height 1200 -refresh 60 -novid (change 1920 and 1200 to your own resolution), I never had a single crash after using those options. Also I heard that repeating sound crash can be fixed by lowering sound hardware acceleration in dxdiag.

I found that running it in windowed mode, setting the DirectX level to 8.0 and playing without AA, AF to Trilinear, no motion blur and no HDR solved the problem for me. Can play for a few hours at a time now :)

Just a shame I can't put my 2900XT to use :(

I'm using Vista x64 & i was having the the same problem where the game would crash & the sound would loop. The latest nvidia graphics card driver fixed it for me & it's never crashed for the last 2 days.

I don't know if this would help but i used to get this same thing with DOD:S and the only way to stop it was to lower the process priority before you join a game (when you are on the game's menu screen). Worth a try if nothing else works.

well i have fixed it.

I put this in my "set launch options" -console -windowed
To do this right click TFC2, goto properties.

Then in my GFX i turned off all MSAA AA all that stuff in the 2nd paragraph of options. Filtering is bilinear and the rest is off. And i have played 1.5 hours with no crash.

Best is 6 in a row as spy in the Sudden death round haha, i kept cloaking as the one i just killed ;) weeee

Its a graphics bug. HL2:Ep1 has exactly the same problems on release, so did Dod:S

Eventually they got fixed... kinda. For most people a new graphics card driver will fix it. On vista it just seems to something a little more complicated.

In general, if all else fails, using -dxlevel 81 fixes it.

Amazed this isn't on Windows Update. I had about 3 crashes in TF2 earlier, gonna try installing this patch.

Amazingly there is another patch on that page KB936710 which would appear to fix DX10 enabled games (e.g. Bioshock, etc) not using Crossfire/SLI!

Well, this patch seemed to fix Crossfire in Bioshock - it certainly felt faster. It also fixed the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod v4 for HL2 and HL2:EP1, previously this wouldn't work in Vista at all for me but now it does :D Thanks!
