So TFI Friday starts again tonight at 8PM on Channel 4.

At the time the original series started I had just left school and was in 6th form college. I used to tune in without fail every week. It was the era of Brit Pop, and FHM magazine and as a 16 year old everything that was going on in my life was reflected in the show. I had broken out of the constrains of school and this show was edgy, unpredictable, rebellious and appealed.

One of the amazing things was that it was on at 6pm not late at night even though it felt like watching "The Word" or something post watershed. As I got older and headed to Uni it became the program you watched on a Friday before you went out. It literally signalled the start of the weekend - TFI Friday indeed.

The show had and still has many detractors, it was admittedly horrendous at times, extremely hit and miss, but it knew what it was and you forgave it. I think some of the guests interviews were generally interesting and as a way of capturing Britain in the 90s I think it did a really good job.

So I watched the one off special that aired a few months back and smiled my way through it and kind of hoped they'd do another run. There is nothing like it on TV at the moment (One Show!) but I wonder is that for a reason? I can't imagine it will be as edgy now and I see it has been moved to 8pm which is a shame, but maybe it will pull more viewers.

Anyone else got any memories or thoughts on the show. If you hated it I totally understand, I think a lot of people hated Chris Evans.

Like you've said it's just not going to be edgy, which was pretty much why everyone watched. I mean you don't have characters these days like the Gallagher brothers back then.

did anyone catch this last night? the music acts weren't my thing but I was quite impressed they got u2 on it

everything seemed really rushed, moreso than back in the 90s. did it used to be longer or is it just me?

with any luck they might revive eurotrash too :D

Surprised this thread didn't have more activity...no-one else watch it?

Thought it was pretty good. Not sure i like Bono but i respect U2 and their music...

I never came back to comment...so here goes.

Well I quite enjoyed it, it was really faithful to the original. It was all quite haphazard and that is a good thing. For as many unscripted moments that don't work it allows for the hilarious ones that do.

Nice to see some live music on the TV too. Hope the Sound of the Sirens girls get something out of this, thought they were ace.

I thought it was OK, a bit try-hard in places but I was also impressed they managed to get U2 - one of Evans' buddies no doubt.

Extremely manic, more than I remembered it to be.
