Wanted to buy a couple of Oyster cards for me and the missus as we are planning a day trip up to London in a couple of weeks, so decided purchasing two standard Oysters which we can keep topped up for future trips to be delivered by post, the best option.

So off to the TfL website I trotted. Purchasing the first card was fairly easy - select card and initial amount, set up account and pay the ching. Problems arose when I tried to add a second card, there just seemed no way to do it, so cue... Option 2 - set up a second account for wifey. All very well and logged in but when I tried to order her card the log in somehow switched back to my account, back to square one again. In the end I had to fire up the laptop and log into the wife's account from there, at which point I could successfully order her Oyster.

Possibly a cookie thing, but less than impressed that the shop front of the main public transport provider in one of the worlds major capital cities makes it so hard to obtain their basic travel card. Imagine if you had kids, you would have to set up an account for each of them, rather than as many cards as you require on the one account.

I imagine TfL expect that visitors would buy an Oyster card on arrival but it should be easier for the more organised sorts to order a few cards.

Do you have a contactless bank card? It does a better job than an Oyster as there's no messing about with topping up.

As above, any contactless card does exactly the same thing as an Oyster, so a bit pointless really.

Also remember that the amount you pay per day is capped as well so think the max you can be charged on the contactless is £6.60 (do correct me if im wrong) which is the same as max on Oyster.

If you need VAT receipts then this can be done from the TFL website by registering your card, the receipt is available the next day.

Did consider just using the debit card but prefer to keep the transactions separate.

The fare cap is great, if you want to spend all day "bashing" the tube it's only £6.60 as you say. Just need to convince the wife making the full circle of the Circle Line (which is more a sheperd's crook these days) is a must do when visiting London!

You had plenty options

1. Incognito/in private mode
2. Different browser
3. Delete cookies / saved accounts

Can't blame tfl because you're not in control of your browsing activity

So much effort to avoid paying with contactless because you want to keep a single transaction separate.

Your going to get yourself sectioned.
