I have the Dell 2407WFP-HC monitor - which is great but i have a question:

Are TFT Monitors able to display 32bit colour?

In my display settings I have Colour set to 32bit but I figured that if the monitor is not capable I would drop it to 16bit for a performance increase.

Of course they can display 32-bit colour... hence why it works fine when you have it set... what a bizzarre question. :/

32-bit colour has been standard for over a decade now.

I was somewhat confused by the following part of the specification:

"Colour Depth: 8-bit, 16.7m colours, 92% NTSC gamut"

16.7m Colours is 24bit for which there is not an option.

there are very few displays that can actually display anything more than 24bit colour so not, it isnt a bizzare question at all Richdog.

however, since our graphics cards are right at home with working working with 32bit colour, you wouldnt see any benifit from dropping to 24bit colour:)

Ahh I see how he got confused now... fair enough, I was looking at it from another angle, sorry. :)

yeah no real reason to not let Windows work with a 32-bit colour output. The display itself can show a true 16.7m colours from it's 8-bit panel technology....ie there are 256 possible alignment variations for each sub-pixel from the panel, meaning 256 x 256x 256 = 16.7m :)

The colour gamut also represents how much of a particular colour space the backlighting can cover, with 97% being a coverage of the NTSC standard space
