TFT for working in the garden

I work from home and often think it would be great to work in the garden when the sun is out.

I've noticed when I take my laptop outside, the screen is very dark, even with the brightness turned up.

Has anyone been successful working outside in these conditions? If so, which monitor/laptop do you use? I don't mind hooking up a another screen to the laptop, I just want to be outside!!!!!

You'll need some kind of a shield/hud over it to try and block out as much of the surrounding light as possible ideally. I really have no idea if you can get such things for a laptop, I know you can for full sized displays, you often see them on high-end 3D graphics workstations.

However, my suggestion would be, don't sit in the sun and use a laptop, it's not natural, blinds/curtains closed and a lamp on is the way it should be done ...sunlight is for the weak! ...or just sit outside but in the shade. I'm not sure direct sunlight is going to do the machine a whole lot of good anyway, most laptops already run fairly warm because of the restricted air-space and cooling capabilities within them.

Look for a screen that is over 500 nits. I had similar problems when using a TFT in my car, but now I've got a screen with 4 CCFL's, and it's bright enough to read when the sun is out.
