Hello, ive just stopped playing on my tft and setup to play games on my crt, i fired up UT2k4, and the difference was huuuuuuge, on my tft i had trouble with an avrage ai, losing half the matches, while now i pwn a masterfull ai.
Same for mohaa, used to be avrg-good player online, now im mostly, 9 out of 10 times, the top player...

Basicly i'm trying to warn you all, get a tft with uber good responce time, or your reputation as a good gamer may be gone, i'll only game on my tft with rts games and such, racing and fps are destined to be played on CRT imo.

Hmmm not sure how much difference it really makes on modern TFTs. I went from a nice CRT to a distinctly average TFT due to space restrictions and I didn't notice any reduction in my gaming ability.

I'm not disputing your experience of course, just saying my experience was a different one and I'd never go back to CRT.

While ghosting can make gaming on a TFT more difficult (image smear may hide detail), I reckon you've probably got a panel with a lot of post-processing, thereby causing the display to lag behind the feed. The Dell 2405FPW - which remains a great screen - was a bit bad for this (~50ms), and moving from that to a better TFT did make a noticeable difference in gaming for me.

Soooo... spend a little more and buy a good LCD with a very fast response rate perhaps?

When it comes to good TFT screens it's more to do with panel quality than response times. Dell 2007WFP for example is 8ms and will wipe the floor with any 2ms TN panel out there every day of the week.

Sooo, where can i find the little more money from, not everyone is rich, plus no tft can compare to the responce time of my trusty old trinitron.

I agree the monitor i had wasn't the best, it was 25ms, but i cant say i noticed ghosting, the only difference was the scores in games, fps games that is.

Ill see how it becomes when i get my new monitor in, wich will be 8ms...

Not at response it won't? Surely?

Lol about the 25ms tft you have and saying just because thats poor in games you think 8ms or less will be same. Well ok you dont say that exactly but its the jist of what your on about.

Well, post when you actually have a 5-8ms screen and then come back and say weather it beats ** crt or not.

According to a TFT responce time program my crt has a Black to white (not gtg) responce time of 2 ms, wich is still a lot better than 8ms grey to grey....

Nope, not in terms of response rate it won't, which is what the OP is talking about. Visually in terms of quality the Dell wins hands down (by a country mile), but in terms of responsiveness a 2ms TN panel will be noticeably better. I've tested both those exact panels in the last 2 weeks so am making an informed opinion here.

Save some money up? Like the rest of us? :p

25ms? Goodness grief man that's about as slow as it gets nowadays... 99% of the UK gaming population are probably using a faster panel than that. 16ms should be the maximum you buy for gaming.

It will be a lot better... :)

I guess you really need to have used several models of TFT before making bold statements though as there is a very large difference between them

Don't forget peeps, that these "2ms" quoted response times are just thanks to overdrive technologies. The panels still really run at 16ms and there abouts, but the manufactuers don't quote this, as obviously, 2ms G2G sounds better. :)

A lot of TFT's must be running higher than 16ms, because my 17" 16ms Viewsonic performs terribly compared to most TFT's I see in Uni/ mates laptops.

Yes, hence imo they can never beat the crt's real black to white responce time...
I mean ive never heard of a 2ms black to white tft, only grey to grey, but be honest, whats grey to grey if u turn around in a game towards a sun from looking against a wall, thats now grey to grey thats grey to yellow/orange :p .

This is absolutely true, although there will inevitably be a point at which we can't tell the difference between the two response wise due to the limits of our eyes, that you cannot argue with. To be honest I think we're very nearly there.

The TFT now is the first i've ever had and I honestly can't tell the difference in responsiveness between it and my old Compaq CRT while gaming. All FPS's are smooth as silk, COD 2 especially.
