Lo all,
My colleague at work has a NEC MultiSync LCD2190UXp monitor and it's started going a bit funny.
The computer he's working on has a dodgy graphics card and crashes frequently. Yesterday he got some graphic artifacts and the computer froze so he restarted it.
When it came back on the monitor started squealing in a very high-pitched tone and we got a whiff of smoke and a very bad smell.
Obviously we turned it off straight away but having tinkered with it over the last day or so we can't really find out what's wrong with it.
It still displays an image and it doesn't seem to have burnt out or anything.
Interestingly if you leave it to go on standby the squealing stops so it only squeals while the panel is on, not just when it's receiving power.
Does anyone have any ideas what's causing it and/or what to do about it?
It's a £600 monitor so we're a bit reluctant to replace it without at first trying to fix it, especially as it seems to still work.
Cheers for any help.
