TFT monitor repair?

I have had a replacement monitor from dell, but they tell me that they will not collect my faulty one and that I can dispose of it. As my new one has a dead pixel, and I could do with 2 for when I get my PS3, I am wondering whether it is worth paying for a repair of the faulty one and was wondering whether this is possible, and how much it would cost. The model is a 19inch Dell branded TFT, and it is basically 'fizzing' every time you switch it on, and switches off after a few seconds. It also smells like burning electricity!!

I wouldn't rule it out, but often with these things its cheaper to make a new one than repair a broken one.

I guess I should just take it in to my local repair shop then and see if they can do anything.

Give this chap a call, I think its just what your looking for, even repairs scratched TFT screens.

[Edit] Just had a look myself and he replaces backlights as well, no charge if he can't repair. Must be worth a phone call.
