Hi All,

My 19" CRT finally topped itself last night, got power but failing to receive and transmit a signal....its a goner.

So, to make a positive out of a negative I'm now in the market for a nice sparkly TFT to replace it. :)

Looking to use the TFT for FPS/RTS games, Photos and Video Editing and IE and Office stuff, very occassionally movies.

I've read the guides and am leaning towards Viewsonic (17" or 19") or DELL 2007WFP. So I'm looking at that kinda of range in terms of expense with the DELL at the maximum.

So, wondering if you kind people could you please recommend me a TFT that would suit my needs.

Many Thanks.

Well if you only watch movies occasionally then the 2007WFP is out.. but I bet if you got one you would watch movies on it more frequently. Also if you dont mind the fact that some games dont support widescreen and you will have to either hack the config file or use the 1:1 pixel mapping that the monitor has then it will be fine.

But yes If I was going to get a 17 or 19" I would probabilly get a viewsonic, I have always liked this one but it was to expensive when I wanted it;

Viewsonic VP920 19" LCD Monitor - Black/Silver (MO-054-VS)

Price: £184.99 (£217.36 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Second most important thing about a monitor to me is the stand itself, and this one looks sexy ;)

I have just made the same leap from my 21" Sony Trinitron CRT to a TFT. I wanted it for gaming mainly and finally settled on a 19" Belinea 101927. I ordered it (not from here) on Monday and got it yesterday all for £176.49 delivered. It's a lovely monitor, black frame and stand with silver metal buttons on the lower centre front of the frame. It has DVI-D and the normal VGA inputs and thanks to it's 3.9ms response time there is no ghosting at all. I am well pleased with it and also that i made the switch. See it at http://www.belinea.com/Products/TFT_19/product_moni_tft.jsp?node=8&artnr=111925 .

Sorry for the thread hijack but I'm in the same boat as the OP. My 17" monitor gave up the ghost a few minutes ago so I'm also on the look out for a new monitor.

I'd like a black widescreen TFT that can be used for games and films. I like the look and specs of the 20" Dell and the look and price of the 19" Hyundai but am open to suggestions. I've been reading an article on BeHardware here about new methods of controlling video so would like to know if the new drivers from ATI and Nvidia make much difference to the quality. The maximum I can afford is £325 but I'm looking for reasons why I should spend nearly twice as much on a 20" as opposed to a 19". Cheers all :)

Cheers for the replies.

I think the Dell is now out of the running......too grand for what I need....hmm....but I keep coming back to it !

So....looks like either a 17" or 19" (non-WS).....the Viewsonics have certainly got a few in this category....too many to choose from ! :(

So I know the Res is the same between a 17" and a 19", but has anyone gone from a one to the other and noticed a difference ?

I've read that the VP930 is a very good all rounder however OC only list the VP920 (as mentioned above)...differences ?

Pigeon_Killer - I think you'll find the 20" has a bigger Res than the 19".

Many Thanks.

the Dell FP1905/ 1907 is a very well thought of model - especially with a decent 8ms screen ( some of the 1905s have a 20ms panel) are very good and you can find them for a decent price if you look around

If you need any further info email me :[email protected]

Wow....just seen the Samsung SM940MW in this weeks OC offers. 19"WS with TV and 8ms response time. Very tempting....anyone already got one ?

I'm going to make the decision this weekend and place an order, which one will it be ??

Decisions decisions !

Torn between a 4:3 19" and a WS 19" !

Like the look of the Samsung SM940MW BUT don't know how it is comparable to other 19" WS monitors. But then the Hyundai N91W is highly rated on here, with Gibbo stating its the best 19" WS monitor he's seen.

I'd really love to hear how these 2 compare against each other ?

I've got a 6800GT GPU, will this be ok to play at 19" WS resolutions ? or should I be looking at 19" non-WS.

What's the best 19" non-WS available ?

And to cap it all, how would my 6800GT fare with 20" WS resolution ?

Oh yeah....probably going to upgrade the GPU next year.

Cheers.

Well decision finally made !

Just placed an order for.....drum roll.....an Hyundai N91W 19" widescreen.

Its a recently released screen, had great reviews on here and it seems to tick all my boxes especially its fantastic price.

I wasn't sure what the quality of the Samsung 940MW would be like in PC use, so opted against it. The VX922 would have been great for gaming but it's not the only thing I do on the PC. Decided against a 20"....maybe one in the future.

Hohum....fingers crossed that I've made the right decision !!

This is one of my main concerns about getting a 20" WS. I've only got a 7800GS and am not sure whether it's better to run a 19" at 1440x900 with eye candy or a 20" at 1680x1050 with less/no eye candy. I'm also unsure how good a resolution lower than native would be if I got a 20" screen. I hope you enjoy your new monitor :)

I have that exact same card (the slightly overclocked one?), and I'm running 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT with 85Hz refresh rates with no problems :)

Well what can I say.....WOW !
This monitor is superb, a bargain at this price.
I've followed the tips from mrk on the Hyundai N91W thread, and oh boy do I like it.
I didn't realise my CRT was on its way out....the colour comparison is amazing....its nice to see Reds, Blues, Greens etc how they should be.

Only downer is the lack of height adjustment, but a ream of paper sorted that out !

I love the width, especially while playing Company Of Heroes Demo. But I do miss the depth on some apps. If I was to upgrade then it'd have to be a 20" WS.

Excellent 19" WS TFT...thoroughly recommend it.

Get the 20" widescreen .... get the largest widescscreen your pockets can afford NOW! forget about only having a 7800GS, you can turn down the eye candy, but if you buy a 19" now, I can almost guarantee you'll be hankering for a 20", don't be fooled by only a 1" difference in screen sizes. The involvement difference between the 2 sizes is huge!
