Thailand trip

I went to thailand in august 08 for 3 months -

I didnt go to Phuket because I heard its a seedy crap hole, but other people I spoke to said it was good.

Koh Phangan - Awesome island, very relaxing in the day, lots of partying by night/morning
PhiPhi - A bit touristy but still great fun. If you do a boat trip, dont do one of the big organised ones. Just hire a guy on a speedboat to take you to some places, much better
Railey/Tonsai - I didnt stay in railay because it was too expensive and touristy. Tonsai is one of my favourite plaecs in the world. Amazing place, especially if you like rock climbing
Samui - Thought it was crap and expensive, I went back to Phangan after 2 days there
Koh Tao - Great for diving and a fantastic small islang
Koh Chang - Another great island, I wanted to have a chilled one but it was my birthday and I got back to my room after being out on mopeds all day and there were huge speaker stacks set up just outside my room for a 1/2 moon party...awesome!
Chiang Mai (northern thailand) - Great for trecking/activities, not much else there really

I fell in love with Koh Phangan, so relaxing in the day but some serious fun to be had at night. Rent mpeds for £1.50 a day and go and explore any of the beaches and island in general

------
Things I have in mind;

full moon party
scuba diving
mountain climbing
------

Get out of Phuket and get to Koh Tao for some great cheap diving, a 5 day PADI course would be a good start if you havent dived before.
Then head to Railey and walk over to Tonsai, not many people know about it but its a fantastic place. You will be able to go deep water soloing, and there are some of the hardest climbs in the world if you are a good climber. Wee's climbing school is great and its awesome for chilling out :) "Mr Snorkel" does some good breakfasts. Its a basic place, wood huts and 1 shop. 100 bht a night was good though (less than £2 at the time) One night I heard something running over my roof then a hiss and a squark noise. I bricked it because obviously a snake had got something and was chilling out eating on my hut.

I was supposed to be there for 3 days but I stayed 2 weeks! oops. Maybe stay there for a week

Then get yourself over to Phangan for the final blow out party week. I stayed on the south coast (baan tai) at liberty bungalows. I went back 3 times it was that good. Its next door to mac bay

I'm getting a semi boner just thinking about this, had an awesome time there and some very funny moments. Hired some mopeds with 2 czech guys and 2 dutch. fun day!
Coral pool party, mellow mountain, full moon parties, black moon and 1/2 moon. Thai boxing nights, night market in baan thai, 'taxis' with 15 people in on full moon night etc etc everyday not knowing what you were going to do next and having no plans for anything. Makes my life seem dull now :(

Agree, get out of Phuket asap! See Phi Phi, spend plenty of time in Krabi, we loved it there.

East Islands were brilliant though, Samui, get a bike and see the whole island. Lamai's nice, stayed at Lamai Wanta which was very nice if a little pricey. Cheweng is ok but very touristy and a bit of a hole. Bo Phut was really nice.

Phangan, yer don't stay near Haad Rin, it's a hole. We stayed at Sunset Cove on the west and the hotel was fantastic, definately recommend it, very tranquil.

You probably won't see Bangkok if you're flying in/out of Phuket and to be honest we hated it. We only spent two nights there and was glad it was just that. We did stay here though in a suite which was pretty incredible!

56th floor with balcony, amazing views, service and rooms!

Sounds stupid but make a diary. I can't remember half the stuff we did. Probably because of the buckets! :D

I wouldnt say haad rin is a hole but I wouldnt stay there simply because I loved partying then chilling out after. I you want to go on a mad week bender where you dont sleep then you should stay there.

Zoom 'club' is fantastic. We were the first people to start dancing there at 8pm and lasted through until 10.30am. Super fun times.

The next day I biked around, forgot suncream and forgot to drink/eat anything. The next morning I was on a 9 hour coach ride to Phi Phi and the air con broke, I also forgot water. I was then ill for a week in phi phi, worse I have ever felt in my life. It was a good job it was the second time I went to phi phi. I checked into a decent room with a hot shower and slowly recovered. A great end to a mad 3 months in Thailand (and Laos)!!!

:(

I stayed here as well in may 2008 for over a week. The people who own this place are awesome and cost 200baht a night in the standard hut

I got a picture with the woman who ownes (or part owns) the place. She was really nice. I built up some nice big tabs for the nights i stayed, ate there and also rented a moped - the final one being just over 4000 bhat, only about £100 but she looked like she won the lottery! (I usually spend that in one night in england)
No driving licence or deposit needed for moped hire, really trusting. She even let us put stuff our own drinks in the fridge!

I borrowed one of her children buckets for the black moon party at mac bay, it was about 3 times the size of the standard buckets you could buy. It fitted a 70cl bottle of sangsom, 5 small bottles of M-150 energy drink, 2 litres of fanta and a couple of other goodies. It was a brutal bucket but I did get through it (helped by a couple of mates and some other randoms who we met)

Sorry, gotta call you up on this.... :p

I have a bee in my bonnet about people who have this attitude to Bangkok. The first time I was in Thailand I spent about two months in Bangkok, and once you learn where to go and what to do then it's an AMAZING place to be.

Always somethng happening, always something new to find/explore. When I was there I HATED the fact that so many toursists would basically stop over for 2-3 nights and then go off and ****-off the city because they had a **** time (largely because they didn't know where to go).

BKK is awesome if you go there with an open mind. Just give it the chance it deserves and you'll have a great time.

pics of baby tigers!

Here you go, they were possibly the cutest little bundles of fur and claw I have ever seen.

Also in PhiPhi, we hired some Aussie guy with a huge boat with unlimited beer for the afternoon -> early evening, was amazing, but the downside is that he prefers you to swim from the boat to the places rather than take you in, which can be fun, also can be knackering.

Bangkok is awesome, love that place. Also makes a good base to stay a few nights then hit a tat office and sort some trips :)
Try to experience everything :)

If my numbers roll in then 2 fingers to the uk and getting my ass over there to live, wouldn't live in Bangkok though :p

Only got back a few weeks ago from Thailand and :(
