The same thing has just happened on my blitz formula. :(

o noes you used Asus update *cringes* that program is just made to ruin your pc. Always update the BIOS through the BIOS flash system.

Well the program doesn't come with a warning.

If people release software that isn't at a pre-release stage I expect it to work.

If this is what the program causes why do Asus publish it? :/

I agree with what you have written. Even though I use my old trusty floppy to flash my BIOS, if and when I get round to doing it and not just because there is a new version, it does seem that many motherboard manufacturers package a Windows version of their BIOS flashing tools often on the CD that comes with the board.

Then when you use it you find that people, for all the right reasons, inform you that you shouldn't have used it all along....!!!!

To the OP....

If clearing the CMOS / removing the Power and battery from the board for a period of time and using the minimum hardware attached doesn't resolve it then you could either return the board for a replacement or use a BIOS reprogramming service like....

http://www.motherboard-biosflash.co.uk/

...providing it is a socketed type of BIOS chip. I have used them before with success. On another occasion I hot-flashed my DFI board with my friends BIOS chips that I borrowed :)

With luck someone else might post with a useful suggestion that would get you up and going, best of luck :)

Have you tried pressing F2 or ALT + f2 (i think) as it boots with the asus CD in? Should bring up the ez-flash utility and flash to the original bios.

Yes i have read the OP but it's still worth a try :p

I've had a look and as far as I can tell the Blitz doesn't have a socket type bios. In my other two PCs the bios is clear to spot but unless Im blind its not the same on this new one :(

Nope.

Left it without a battery or power cable with minimal components for over 30 mins and it's doing the same thing. Power on, Power off, Power on etc

Gay

Got to wait till 9am to call Asus support now :/

I have also tried the same tests with no luck.

i am not going to be able to speak to asus until 10ish tomorrow so if you get any info of them can you let me know..

thanx

Yea will do mate.

I hope they don't do the usual stupid dance of "Please post faulty items to us, we will test them and if broken you pay for postage of a new item"

There are plenty of companies e.g Logitech who just replace stuff outright which is much less annoying.

Oh well.

Your guarantee is with the retailer and not the manufacturer, even though when dealing with some issues / items it can be quicker to deal with the manufacturer.

So you could try and give the place where you bought it from a ring, for a replacement / refund...?

Yeah I can't believe that using Asus Update in Windows destroys your BIOS/board. I used to use it back in the P4 and AMD days on my ASUS boards and it worked fine then but when I saw this issue before buying the board I couldn't believe my eyes....AND they still have it for download.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.

Asus forums is full of dead board owners and the forum staff feel the software should be removed from the download section.

They even have big red font warnings in the FAQs warning not to use it - pitty the forums are so crap you only visit after you have a problem

Well I've handed mine over the the guys in the OCUK store so they've got to test it and then issue me a new one.

Won't be using my pc till next week then :(
