Thanks Microsoft (no, really)

All smiles now... What about when your warranty expires and it dies.. Cos lets face it, it will. Won't be writing letters of praise then will you.

Especially if MS don't support full backward compatibility in their next console which, lets face it, isn't exactly one of their primary concerns.

Tbh, probably going to get abuse for saying this, but i don't feel they deserve any praise on their returns policy. They only offer a 3 year warranty as they were forced to to avoid massive lawsuits and their competitors do straight swaps on the door when their consoles die, yet people are happy when they 'only' have to wait a week for a replacement? I'm not saying the other console companies are perfect, far from it, but i certainly don't feel Microsoft deserve praise for anything to do with their returns service.

I think they will have to support back compat with the next one or face a backlash. After all people have spent a small fortune on DLC and stuff like rockband content.

Imagine of the '720' didn't allow you to transfer your 360 DLC. I can't see them wiping the slate clean with a new console.

Fair point actually, i just worry with the heated competition backward compatibility seems to have become an afterthought with both of what i'd consider the 'main' consoles basically ignoring it these days. I guess with unified systems like Live and the PSN content will have to be carried forward.

I think they've already guaranteed it - from what I read on the web ATi & IBM have signed on to do the processors in the Xbox Next. No nVidia again and no Intel Larrabee.

I was under the impression microsofts service was terrible for the console turn around. Are most of the horror stories from the States and here in the UK they aint too bad?

Surely it would be better to have a console that didn't break in the first place! :p

This. My original PS1 (keep it for FF7 ;)) and PS2 are still going strong.

Hoping my Jasper doesn't go the way of my first 360.

I hate how you get some recon piece of junk returned to you. This one is sooooo much slower than my original one. Takes forever for my games library to pop up.

When my original one gave up the ghost, the refurb I got back is actually much much quieter and seems to start up faster too so I don't know what happened there :p

Complimenting a company for dealing with a faulty product is a bit silly. That fact that it died on you in the first place means the company (MS) failed as you were without a console for a period.
