You know what I mean?

Indeed, 'Amusements Online' does sound like a gambling site, but I bookmarked it a while back as a fairground heritage type page as I'm into fairgrounds. Most 404'd sites will redirect to my OpenDNS search page, in the way I've set it up. This however fell in the pit that's known as a cyber-squatter. It's a slight annoyance, 'though I'm curious as to what criteria causes some redirects to go to OpenDNS (or whatever DNS you're using), and which ones succumb to that annoying lady's face.

The ones that OpenDNS will capture is where the domain doesn't exist, either because no one has registered it, or whoever did have it registered, let it expire and get deleted.

The domain in the screenshot is a valid domain that someone owns. It has been registered since 2006 and is set to last until August next year or later if the owner pays to add more years to it. Whoever owns it just hasn't pointed it to a valid site so either the DNS servers responsible for it or maybe the fairground heritage site's former hosts are giving you that page.

i see those on unregistered domains, especially where you make a typo.
Probably not. Unless your browser is serving you adds instead of telling you it's an unregistered domain or you have a DNS server that is lying to you, I would say it's more likely you are looking at a domain that some parasite has registered to try to extort money from someone that needs the domain later down the line or from people trying the wrong address. If you want to check if a domain is registered, go to whois.net, enter it into the whois lookup box and click go.

Tucows love doing this. Very annoying when it's a domain that has expired and you'd like to buy it but can't because Tucows will never release it. :/

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that the people involved in those cybersquatting pages cannot die soon enough. (especially that woman)
