...That you've received two games for Christmas and both a bit of a lemon.

No.1 - Sleeping Dogs. Bought on the basis of the various reviews and accolades but already stuck at an early stage, the mission where you have to chase the guy then end up in a kung fu fight on a rooftop against multiple opponents. No matter how many combinations of F, E and LMB mashing I just get beaten to a tar. Every time. The so called "sandbox" open world isn't there - try and leave the area to find health, weapons or power ups and the game fades to white, it won't let you deviate from where you should be. No means of lowering the difficulty level. = Waste Of Money 1.

No.2 - X-Rebirth. Well I should have known better, despite the patches and so called fixes. The whole style of the game is different with the structured, if unrealistic, systems linked by jumpgates, replaced by equally unrealistic abstract "areas" linked by various green "tubes". The ship handles like a slug on Nytol, the laser fires at the opposite direction from the reticule and just generally feels muurgh compared to the excellence that was Terran Conflict. So Waste Of Money 2.

Sleeping dogs is open world and is good, you're still in the intro part so can't do much. Its well worth playing.

Sleeping dogs was a fantastic game, I rarely find a SP I enjoy but SD was one.

Use a controller for the fighting, much easier to get the correct combos. The story line was pretty good and I enjoyed it being set in HongKong, they made the city look beautiful.

Not sure how good this new version will be as the old one was a real stress tester, my GPu was getting a pasting. Either way dude stick with it, when you rank up in fighting it gets easier, always get the fat blokes out of the way first, try and attack them from behind.

Re SD, Got my posterior handed to me even quicker, using the joypad...

Time to see if there's a health "cheat" somewhere, don't want unlimited ability just enough to get through the opening levels.

Are you actually following the instructions properly? If you can't even get through the tutorial stages then it's doubtful it's the game thats the lemon.

I loved Sleeping Dogs and found the combat really fun. After watching my kids struggle, I had to explain to them it's all about timing rather than button bashing. Left click when you want to hit someone and wait for the move to finish before pressing it again. If someone gets the marker above them that they're about to hit you, press right click immediately. It's pretty much the same combat system as the Batman Arkham series so if will help if you've played those (and if not, get them as they're awesome). Definitely worth sticking with Sleeping Dogs as once you're past the intro the game opens out and becomes a beautiful and fun open-ish game.

Sleeping Dogs is great and X Rebirth was the worst game I ever purchased. It really affected my buying habits, I haven't bought many games since because it burned so bad.

Sleeping Dogs was a great game. Once i got past the bad driving physics it became enjoyable. I used an xbox360 controller on the PC.

How can you lose on the opening level to SD??? It's easy with a kb or controller!
You playing with your toes and not your fingers?

Got through it now after finding a trainer that can be switched on and off. No intention of using again except as a last resort, but that whole section was just impossible (for me) getting swarmed by 5 bad guys then you have a mini boss fight.

At least I can now see the rest of the game SWMBO bought me for Xmas!

Re SD, now that I can start to see the rest of the game, collect the health bonuses and start doing side missions things are much better. The rendition of Hong Kong is excellent (never been there but I have watched the tram "tour" clips on YouTube).

Glad my misfortune has provided some amusement to lighten the holiday spirit, though I note no-one has disagreed with me regarding X-Rebirth so far!
