Festive cheer and all that. Is it too early for a, 'where the heck did the years go', 'where did my hair go', and 'remember the good old days when things were done properly, schools and parents had authority and things were less stressful' thread?

I cannot believe how fast time dissappears, really hard to remember the younger days now, the revolution that is the internet and mobile phones, the dial up modems, CRT monitors, voodoo graphics, IRC chat, Time and Tiny computers and lots more. I could start on the Zx spectrum also.

Anyway hope you all had a decent year. How would you compare today's world with say the 90's, certainly music was better.

I feel like I only view the world from a mobile phone these days, listening to the likes of Alex Jones now and again to get the real news of what's going on in world politics.

Very odd year for me but it's made me evaluate where I'm at and has made me get plans together to escape London. Scary but I think it will be good for me! :D

I miss the 90's too but music was just as bad back then. 80's was far superior there I'm afraid.

Every era has had its good and bad. Some worse or better than others. It still exists today.

I see your mind left with your hair then

Cars, computers and the internet (speed as opposed to content) is better.

Political leadership has gone down the toilet along with our ability to read crap and dismiss it for what it is.

Music is far worse.

Happy Easter.

You just lost all credibility

@ Jsmoke - the years going by quicker is an age thing. The older you get, the quicker the years go by.

@ Narj - 2018 has been odd for me too. Definitely the weirdest year ever with family stuff going on, death of Grandad, me surviving a redundancy round.

To everyone else - this is the time of the year when BBC news like to remind us that we'll all die early of dementia, liver cancer, lung cancer (even if we don't smoke), AIDS and 'betes type II.

Its been an odd year for me as well. a lot has changed and some of it not for the better. One thing is for sure, my world was put into a little more perspective and i feel more focused on what i need to do going forward for myself and for my family. Taking risks for example dont seem as risky to me as they would have done before.

Im more focused on what i want and what i need to do to get it so its kinda out with the old and in with the new.

I can remember clear as day being in my bedroom during the summer of 1989 and tuning the dial on a radio I had just got for my birthday. Something on the radio or a song must have mentioned the year 2000 because I remember working out I would be 21 that year and it seemed like forever away.

Now I'm 40 next year, what happened! This year has flown over, there has been very little of note work wise but next year has two big projects and a lot of travel so I know will be memorable and have better milestones. I love looking back through google photos at the last 12 months though and realising a lot more happened than you remember.

Normally I don't really do new year resolutions but I already have some for next year I think the 40 mark is subconsciously kicking in. I don't really care about being 40 as a number as long as my health is good that is all that matters. I really need to get back into a solid exercise routine and intend to run a 5 or 10k for sure.

Definitely 2019 will be a year of sport for me. At least 3 triathlons, a good few parkruns, a few 5k's and maybe one 10k and maybe even back on the track for a 1500m or so, might even make a comeback at the hurdles it's only been 25 years. A 3000m steeple chase on a hot day sounds good.
