Good Morning all!

Getting a little disappointed regarding my frame rate drops and general game stuttering. Can anybody recommend me some upgrades please? Could i also be recommend a nice new monitor. Got a nice 27inch but it's nothing fancy and the screen tears are horrible.

Current build:
Radeon R9 Nitro 390 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Backplate

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor *Overclocked*

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

550W Power supply

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) [KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX]

250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive

Thanks in advance!

whats your current monitor ? guessing its a standard 1080p 60hz non freesync ?

also, thought about chucking in a second hand i7 sandy CPU to give system a bit extra life ?

Correct on the monitor, just a standard non freesync.

depending on how much your budget is as well as finding i7 second hand

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £701.68
(includes shipping: £11.70)

in theory 1440p would have a longer shelf life but samsung screen is said to be jaw dropping- this would get ride of tearing due to freesync

also Vega bit over priced at the moment to jump on it

in theory yes , 8th Gen would give an impact over the system, specially i7 8700k with 6 cores and threads - If you had 3rd Gen intel would have 100% said find a 2nd hand i7

Freesync screen should though get your frames nice and smooth, 1440p will also remove any bottlekneck from the i5 - so could get away without having to find a second hand on- and maybe in a year have a full change - by then intel would have come out with a proper solution to AMD, coffeelake was a bit rushed - and prices sky high at moment

Depends on your budget if you have a good chunk of money I’d go i7 8700k as it’s a decent cpu for gaming if your wanting a decent performance on a tighter budget I’d go Ryzen 1600, both chips need to have decent ram speeds. Gpu if you want to game at 1080p I’d go 1060 6gb to 1070 or if you want to keep Amd vega 56 it’s not priced well but freesync is an option

If i go for either the Ryzen or the I7 8700k, will i need to get a different motherboard? Stupid question i know :(
You would need to get a Z370 motherboard for the i7 8700k, and a B350 or X370 for Ryzen. You'd also need to buy DDR4 RAM for either option.

What is your budget, and what do you intend to use the PC for most?

PC is only used for gaming but i do like to max settings out if possible. Budget is unlimited but would like to keep it as low as possible. Thanks for the help.

You could get around ~£350 for selling your GPU, CPU, motherboard and RAM. So that's a hefty discount on this new build.

Since you mention that you hate screen tears, I would recommend a G-Sync or FreeSync monitor. Both as essentially the same, but every G-Sync display has a +£150 price premium over FreeSync.

If you wanted to go low budget, I would recommend getting an i7 2600k, new GPU (VEGA 56) and a 144hz FreeSync display.

But your CPU will likely still be a limiting factor, and the difference won't be huge in some games.

For a full on upgrade, basically everything would need to be replaced. I would also do the PSU aswell, as who knows the quality of the unit you have.

I know you say no budget (but as cheap as possible) but it does make offering recommendations much easier when you set a budget range.
