Sunday was passing and several members of the house were in the living room watching some TV, when our resident Welshman pipes up.
His sentence begins "You know in space..". Now, I find space fascinating and love sci-fi etc, but I could not claim to "know in space".. but I let him continue because this was only going to be amazing. "What if you could meet aliens, would they be the same as us?". This got everyone thinking with some detailed debate, with input from the scientists, that we have evolved the way we have through very specific conditions (our environment, not just locally but galactically.. just invented that word).
The point concerning whether aliens exist at all was lightly debated with the Welshman's statistics including "tens of solar systems" concluding there must be aliens out there somewhere.
Our conversation considering the levels of Oxygen and the effects of an Oxygen rich atmosphere was cut short by the Welshmen once more. His mind had erupted again and he came out with "Yeh.. so they could be the same as us? But what if they were a bit older? They would all have better technology and stuff, like PS4s". As you can see, the scope for improved technology was exuberant. At this point our Welshman totally derailed with his internal monologue taking over and he decided that he would travel to this place, get a PS4, bring it back and put it on eBay.. the conversation had ended.
But still, there are some interesting factors for discussion.
If you knew the factors of another environment, could you predict what creatures could evolve there?
Is it possible that there are races out their who might have PS4s?
How much would they be worth on eBay?
Would an Oxygen rich atmosphere incite growth, so everyone would be giant?
Would we need visual representations of such creatures through the medium of MSPaint to effectively understand them?
This thread is in no way meant to demean the Welsh, our one has brought us much amusement.
