So, the big news was given last night....

"Sony said it will only ship the more expensive 60GB edition of the PS3 and that it will retail for an almighty £425"

"So after all this waiting what is the likelihood you’ll be able to get your eager mitts on a PS3 on launch day? Predictability the answer is: Not Good. Just one million units will be spread across all PAL territories “during the initial launch period”, a length of time Sony chose not to define."

Personally, that's me finished with the whole PS3 business... I'm going for a 360 at the weekend.

Not only are we treated like the poor relations, compared to the Yanks and Japan, the Europeans then get screwed again on price, choice of product, and limited availability!!!!

It does beg the question, just how much contempt does Sony have for the European market!!!!!!!!

Can't be bothered anymore... Microsoft here I come!

I've totaly lost interest in the PS3 also, I just can't justify the price for what your getting right now.

So many big name titles are also making a 360 version and i've already got one so dont see a need for one untill the price drops and there are decent games out.

Also I think what was said is for the first few months it would only supply the 60GB version and later on it would supply the 20GB due to demand (almost certian i read that somewhere)

Well, I'm still interested, Just won't be buying at launch. :)

Buying it for the Linux option, aswell as various games that won't be coming to the 360.

Reason I'm still okay with buying it

1. I don't want the 20gb version.
2. I don't mind waiting till theres plenty of stock.
3. Price doesnt upset me too much

Anyways, Enjoy your 360.

I have to admit I did consider it before I looked at the list of games on launch... its like being back in the playground with football stickers... got, got, got, got. People will say oh its only the launch titles but they have had an extra year to wow me and everyone so this is what they come up with!

All are either out or coming out for 360, and this is the trend that will keep on happening throughout the ps3's life not just at launch!

One million consoles isn't that bad really. The Wii has sold about that many in PAL territories since launch. It's still going to be a hassle getting one but not impossible.

Just remember that Sony are prone to gross exageration. Expect 300k-400k in PAL. 1 million will probably not happen (Japan and US launches used as reference to this statement).

Oh and TBH everything in that "~Announcment" has been common knowledge on these forums for about 5 month at least.

I see where you are coming from, but we are 2 months away from the launch, the launch has been delayed several times, we are 3 months behind Japan and USA... and Sony still haven't been able to get more than a million produced and ready.

And considering they are only focusing on the most expensive model for us Europeans, why isn't there more... and why are they already making excuses!!

Yes, I totally agree with you. They should have made many many more but I think they've really over-reached with the technology.

They are not competitors, they are forums that tell you the latest deals on the net!!, none of them sell anything!!!

Ok, I didn't actually read the names, just saw "You'll find some great deals, check out ..." and started posting :p

I really love Sony I just wish they'd Lube up first.

On a serious note, was the XBOX 360 or the WII more expensive in europe and by what percentage if they were?

Sony have definitely missed the boat this time.

It's a real shame, as I have all the respect in the world for the Playstation. An amazing piece of kit, and the PS2, and the PSP for that matter.

Not sure. For me, I don't like the fact that we have no choice. Everyone else gets to choose... but we only get the most expense model going.

I heard recently that Sony are loosing monety on every PS3 they sell... could this be the way to recoup!?!?!?! All at the expense of a loyal client base!>!>

Not good business is it!

Time will tell, PS3 could still catch on but more slowly. Especially if blu-ray starts becoming the doninant HD format.

By the time it's released you could probably upgrade your PC to better specs and play all the DX10 games that are going to come along. :)

I know the PS3 is more convenient, blu ray blah blah but it's another option.

My thoughts exactly. I could pick up a 360 for around the 280 mark, as my main console, and later in the year plough the 460 quid a PS3 will cost into a 8800GTX DX10 card for my PC.

Job done, poor old Sony looses another customer who has owned a Playstation/PS2/PSP since the day of their respective releases!

Its just that sony knows Europe is a bunch of mugs that will buy any stuff at any price that sony put out, remember the ps2 $300 in usa £300 pound and a long wait for us and people still bought the thing.

So sony will be asking them selves "why bother when it will sell any way lets concentrate on the other markets"

The PS3 is not a next generation console.. its an abuse of Sony's brand loyalty.. maybe they can afford to abuse it.. maybe they cant..
