Ok so please be patient as Im generally unexperienced with eBay and have never had to return an item before.

I bought a lighting unit on the 5th September off an eBay shop seller in Ireland. Its an aquarium/terrarium lighting hood that contains 10 LED's. However tonight I have just noticed that 7 of these LEDs are no longer working only a matter of weeks after usage. Looking back on a photo from Sunday night I can see in the background that these 7 LEDs are indeed not working then either, I was obviously just too oblivious to realise.

The eBay item page states they offer a 14-day money back guarantee, which obviously I am out of. But isn't there any kind of law/regulation that still allows me to be covered under warranty as it is an electrical product?

From time of arrival of it actually landing on my doormat (not literally thankfully) to now is probably JUST 3 weeks if that. It seemed to have been sent my snail mail. Obviously this is not an acceptable amount of working time for such a product.

I've opened a returns request with the seller, which I presume was the right thing to do (is it?), however I've not had a reply from them yet but I've got the feeling they're just going to tell me to sling my hook.

Picture added to make this post less boring and to illustrate my point because I tend to ramble.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies, I feel a bit better about it now. Will I have to pay to return the item too or will the seller generally not require it for a refund/replacement?

Was it a new item or used? New I'd say you can get a refund, used I'd say you're SOOL.

It was a brand new item which, I would have accepted the fault had it been second hand.

Silly question... but is there a setting on it? I just noticed the three that are "working" look to be in a v-shape pattern. I'm wondering if the others are turned off due to being on a low-brightness mode or something?

Yeah I thought this too as the patterning does seem odd, however I don't remember touching it however and all lights were working before. I couldn't see any obvious switches or buttons on the device.

Hahah yes unfortunately guys I have been a bit "dim".

There was indeed a button to change to full power mode, the questions I should be asking now however is "who has been tampering around with things in my reptile room?".

I blame those oddly small humans named children.
