Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
Ok, I am going to do a build for my cousin as she wants a full system that includes everything e.g. monitor, keyboard, mouse for her 14 year old son. Overclocking is not on the agenda, so that saves expense.

I was thinking of going with a an intel setup something like an i5 3570k. Although, I am not excluding AMD.

I meant to add, this includes operating system.

I like this spec but i'd be a bit annoyed that a £1000 rig would only get me a 7850.

I would personaly set this up as a single card rig.

Save £10 by dropping the PSU to a 530W (thermaltake).

Drop the Case to a Corsair 300R saving around £30.

and getting this monitor saves you another £30: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-081-BQ&groupid=17&catid=510

So thats another £70 to the GPU fund, making it £220..

Id splash the extra £20 (£240) and get a 7950. :)

EDIT: Actually it'll fall within the 1K budget due to FREE SHIPPING (Hoorrray)

Overbudget but stay with me here......

GPU can be OC'd to close the gap on the 7970 and will handle anything thrown at it. 5 free quality games bundled with it makes it even sweeter (that offer expires on the 31st though). 24inch panel with 2ms response time makes it great for gaming :)

SSD makes for awesome boot times and helps load times for games installed to it. I left out the OS as you can use the windows 8 evaluation for free on a 3 month trial to see if it suits. If you need the OS then the SSD can be substituted for it ;)

Only thing I think I've really missed is speakers, I'd hope he had a pair of headphones lying around somewhere. Hope this helps.

DAMN YOU HONO between you and DOOM it just shows how far i have to go to be a great speccer *waves fist* lol very nice build lol

You know when you've been Hono'd ;) To be fair I'm gambling on him getting free P&P too lol

I've gone with decent peripherals too rather than cheap out and them needing changing.

If they are quick the games bundle is a nice perk. Can sell off some to recoup cash or to bribe the boy into cleaning his room, washing the car, cutting the grass or any other chores that may require motivation. Leaving out the OS was a risk but having the SSD from the get go is nice. The OS needs buying much later on but so would games to play, depends how you look at it I suppose.

I look forward to seeing other suggestions, I sense some AMD 8320 spec's coming in but that's not where I'd put my money

Ha ha ha, yeah it must has been a typo. I did mean some form of I5 series as it has out of the box power. The 3570k is what I want!!! He is 14, and wouldn't know what to do with it

Well I just about managed it. Can always get him a heatsink for crimbo and have fun pushing it a little harder. Always nice to know the kit has a little more left in it to offer :D

Potential OP build for later down the line when the system needs a bit of a boost, just add an after market cooler.

You did not mention his needs, so I went for a all round build, should be fast all round due to the SSD, has a blu ray player assuming he will want it for watching media also. 7850 factory OC @ 1080p should be good for gaming.
