*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

In need of some advice:

I'm incorporating olympic lifts into my routine to mix things up a bit.

When it comes to front squatting, clean and presses etc I can't get the bar resting on my chest - reason being? My arms are too big so feel like I cant bend them back far enough. Which is strange because olympic lifters have big arms? Anyway I can improve this or is it just a case of practising the flexibility?

I don't think it's because your arms are too big, it's likely a flexibility issue. mrthingyx will advise better.

No, it'll be flexibility :)

I'd start off with stretch your lats, ie stick your elbow on a wall facing it and apply pressure, you should feel your lats/shoulder going.

There will be other things going on but I'm not entirely sure how to address them: Mrthingy? Where arrrrrrrrrrrrre yooooooooooooou?

Mutual. But troll and be labeled as one. The maths is rather simple.

Don't throw stones in glass houses. Ice has spent far more time than he should have trying to help you. Yet a lot of his advice was ignored.

If people want to ask for advice and not listen to the advice then what do they expect people to react like? Too many people expect to get what they want to hear and then throw a strop when the don't hear what they were hoping.

Either take on board the advice, ignore it if you want, but don't throw it back in the face of those that gave it or call them out to be trolls or unhelpful..

You're lucky people have humoured you as long as now.

Icecold would not have been accepted as a MOH had he been a troll.

Think twice before putting in your snide little comments. Either collaborate and learn or don't, but don't start throwing your advice and lack of knowledge - because until you build up some credibility no one will take you seriously.

Eating humble pie takes a bigger man, I wonder if we'll see that?..

Quick question guys, sorry I'm not a regular poster in here, but when doing dumbbell lateral raises I sometimes get a 'click' at the front of my right shoulder. Does this mean something isn't right? I'm deformed?

Just realised I might be asking for medical advice...I'm not!

Yes - it's flexibility.

Believe it or not, I was in the gym doing bizep curl pyramids with one of the coaches under the auspices of having my front squat form checked. :o :D

Shifty_UK: what are you actually trying to do? The idea of a front rack isn't "to bend your arms back on themselves, but to rotate your elbows in and your wrists out, all whilst keeping your shoulders pinned back and down.

I would repost the pic I took the other day, but it's too early in the morning for that much pink shirt.

Actually... just found it quite easily:

Here we go...

Excuse the blurs...

ekhpas.jpg

Whilst I appreciate my arms are not as big as yours, this is one situation where I can justifiably claim "size does not matter." ;) :D

So what to do to improve your shoulder mobility?

- internal/external shoulder rotation;
- lat stretch;
- tricep/stretching rollering (do this on a racked barbell - it's absolute horror!);

There's a good video by the MWOD lot ('better front rack' on youtube...):

Ok - there are three. See what works for you. :)

And take a photo of your front rack so I can see what you're doing, please. :)

Look a lot has changed in the last 6 months. I have started making progress, where before I was going round and round. However all the above things you have mentioned you could say about Ice.

In my mind I have turned a chapter, yet, you have people like him (snow ball effect drags others along) making snide little comments still despite them not being relevant any more. I’m just simply giving back what is being dished out.

And the only reason we have got to this stage is people insistence and inability to fathom the thought that I cant do squats or deadlifts due to arthritic knee. And yet this became a sticking point. I have moved past it now and am doing what I can within my own limitations.

It's very easy to pick up labels in this part of the forum it seems, so I thought, fine if your so readily handing them out, here is one for you. Seems only fair don’t you think?

But really does any of this matter? I don’t care, he doesnt care, no one cares. It would just be nice to be able to post in this part of the forum without other people making snide little comments at me for no reason. People I don’t even know or had any communication with.

If you go back over the last few months of the forum you will see I post something or answer somebody in fairness and then get snide little comments from people like Captain, 'telling me to go back to not lifting.' for no reason and out of the blue. :confused:

Is this necessary?

At the end of the day, who cares right? But its the principle that matters.

Dude you could have left it with the 1st comment. To be fair you was trollin/baiting for Captain Planets response to be that :rolleyes: I see it as banter rather than throwing snide comments around. Its how you take it that counts.

If nobody cares this much just start fresh. Nate managed it although i think hes died or got fed up of trolling since i haven't seen him around for a week. :cool:

Oh Mr.Opeth, just leave it be, the sooner you/everyone stops throwing things back on forth the sooner you'll be able to post without someone (other than the odd turd) throwing a comment at you (or anyone else for that matter)

Just ignore the people you don't want to listen to, or, add them to your ignore list.

He'd only have you to talk to then :p
