Pathetic how expensive some of the kit is at the moment. It's giving second hand sellers the nerve to mark up the prices as well. Was speaking to a guy on 3 days ago about picking up his bench and a few plates. Contacted me to say he couldn't sell because he'd be 'out of town' for a few days. Saw an identical ad up this morning requesting £120 more for the bundle... ridiculous. He'd obviously been inundated with offers and thought he could make a little more.

Getting to the stage where I'm going to have to buy some stuff on credit. Refuse to pay the prices some of these sites are asking for though. We could do our whole kitchen up for less. Wish I could get some of the cheapey Argos style stuff but (disguised boast time...) it's just not heavy enough.

What are you after?

All I really need is a good rack, a decent barbell and some plates (100kg would do really).

I have a nice combo of half decent spin lock DBs, an alright multi angle bench and some resitance bands which is tying my over for the time being and could always use some accessory stuff like EZ bar and a decent DB tree but that can all wait.

A workmate showed me a FB marketplace post from his area where some woman had picked up a rusty bench, bar and plates for free from some kind soul a few weeks ago before lockdown 2 was announced, and then had it re-listed for a couple of hundred quid, although people were livid and calling her out on it. It’s nuts.

I have no ETA on the skinny steel plates I ordered but there are loads of similar pop-up brands doing the same thing. They’ll do for the Mira Fit short handle Oly DBs which came today (impressed!) but I’m not sure I’d use them for a full set-up as they’re a bit home-brew looking. They are priced somewhat sanely at least.

No way would I pay the prices being asked at the moment, it's mental. Although not quite as mental as lockdown 1 prices.

I'm just going out walking for my cardio at the minute, the gun show is on hold.

Thanks so much for that mate! Some good prices there, just a shame the availability is so sparse... will defo keep my eye on them though. Gonna pick it up piecemeal I think.

Problem with almost all of the racks is that they're just too big... I know they need to be so for safety reasons but unfortunately I just don't have the space for 99% of the ones available. It's all getting thrown into a relatively small conservatory with a sloping roof so even height is an issue.

I'd recommend the bar from Mirafit, really well made and a good price, it won't be in stock for long. https://mirafit.co.uk/weights-and-bars/bars/olympic-barbells.html

Have a look at this squat rack - https://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/taurus-squat-rack.php

I had one for a while:

Bloody hell... Look at all that space :(

Lovely set up there man. sadly I just don't have that much space, rack looks far too tall and wide. I'll just have to settle for a half pressing rack.

It's 1.8m high from what I recall. You may want to look at this - https://mirafit.co.uk/mirafit-adjustable-squat-rack-with-dip-bars.html

note:
  • Please note our remaining stocks of this product have some minor cosmetic damage. We have therefore placed the item on sale. Orders placed will be delivered within our usual 7 working days.

I've sold it in the end and got a Bulldog gear mammoth light squat rack.

That rack is perfect! Put a basket together but the finance option isn't available at all when I go to checkout... the world is conspiring against my gains :(

Hit 237.5kg deadlift for sets today followed by 205kg triples. That was my last lift before the first lockdown. Did it at a lower bodyweight (about 87.5kg average this month) and with solid form this time too. Happy with that.

Managed a new PR for BP. 90x1. The chewits sour purple sweets did the job lol.

Good job :)

Looking forward to getting micro plates for Christmas, can’t keep this progression up much longer. 4-6 weeks I reckon until I reach my max working loads I reckon. I figure I may as well make the most of this progression, it’ll stall again completely next summer, I always gain in the winter.

Been a long time since i have posted in here. I recognise several names, good to see LiE is still lifting, you gave me advice 10 years ago when i first started posting in the Gym rats threads.

Yesterday was my first session back in a gym in almost 5 months. I have been training at home using bands due to local lock among other things. I have been trying to force 300-500 press ups a day on top of workouts as i have not been doing my normal LISS. Luckily, i am still really low body fat - however, I will be interested to see how much strength i have actually lost

Hey @kai good to see you’re back lifting. The muscle memory gains will be glorious, enjoy!

Never stopped lifting :D just i have been reliant on bands for a few months. Its impossible to shift the volume or intensity i would be doing in the gym.

Things have not really changed much for me in about 4 years in terms of diet or splits.
  • Train 4-5 times per week (body part per session)
  • Eat clean(ish) all year (apart from weekend)
  • Stopped all protein supplements - apart from using multi-vits and joint care.
  • Still natural

Bands don’t count as lifting :D

How comes you stopped taking protein shakes?

Not a lot has changed for me either. Well, apart from I don’t powerlift anymore, I’m a leaner 80kg and I’m vegan :p

I get everything i need from food. Plus, i stopped with modelling etc so naturally i lost sponsorships. I am still a lightweight 67KG (7-8% bodyfat).

Vegan :o have you tried Awesome Vegan Protein (Ben Coomber ) i was given a few tubs last year to review. I was really impressed and could never tell it was vegan. I think they now sell it on Amazon.
