thanks again

sweet might think about putting in an order :) what kind of performance people getting out of them? overclcoking wise

Hey,

I was just like you with this and I am your savour, this CPU is amazing at overclocking but make sure you have a good cooler.

I only have a stock cooler I used on my 4400 and it peaks to 55C maybe more.

If you hate Intel like me get this because it will wipe the smile off most Intels out there (but not all of them)

Look at my thread to see my system.

hi , dude i think you must be my savior cause i was just thinking of investining some cash into some more water cooling kit the swiftech compact (just for my cpu) reserator 2 is cooling all at current would love to see my results on water :) and kick some intel ass :) lol happy memories of blowing up 2 free p4s :D. definatley worth the extra cash then?

Have you read the review posted at Toms site....

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Athlon64-X2-5000-Black-Edition,review-29679.html

.... the 5000 Black Edition seems to be the one to be had :)

AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition comes with one unbeatable advantage that no other AMD processor in recent memory has ever had. This €110 CPU sports an unlocked multiplier, which, unlike that of the 6400+, is actually usable thanks to the CPU’s enormous overclocking potential.

EDIT:

Just to add from the above review

The “Black Edition” of AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 5000+ features an unlocked multiplier. Unlike the first Black Edition model, the 90nm 6400+, the new processor is even produced on a 65nm process. As a result, it only draws about half as much power as the 6400+ and offers enormous overclocking potential. Pushed to its limit, this processor is faster than an Athlon X2 600+ or Intel’s Core 2 Duo E6550. Among today’s CPUs, this €110 processor is unique in that its performance can be increased without having to raise either the FSB or the memory frequency, making it a safe choice for any AM2 board.

thanks for pointing that out to me :) its 65nm too a great find vimes :) and with the water cooling too should make a tidy overclock :) .

thanks again

thats always been the way. shrink it down, doesnt overclock as well. bring out another revision that overclocks as well, then keep refining it untill it gets better.

thats the way amd have always done it. palamino to thoroughbred, newcastle to winchester ect

well what overclocks are people currently gettin gout of the 90nm cause i havent been able to get much out of my 6000 if am totaly honest, should be interesting

So which would be better AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition
Or the new AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Black Edition

I would think the 6400 but i'm not sure i can't find any reviews that compair them back to back as it were......

if you are getting a mobo and ram aswell, I'd say go for Intel E2160/E2180 if you want to overclock. Reckon they are faster at 3.x Ghz then the AMDs

Is overclockers gonna stock these chips ??

cause it's cumming up to christmas adn i wanna spend all my money on a cpu and a 8800

lol sitting round that christmas day with my veg and turky on top cooking away !!!!
:D

hmm new cpu thing whats driving me is the unlocked multiplier and on toms hardware they are kicking around with the 5000 at 3.3ghz 300mhz faster than my current 6000 less cache i know but is the 6400 as clockable as the 5000 and work that extra 60 quid or so?
