The £7 upgrade!!

Hi all,

Thought I would make a quick post so those who need a upgrade but have little cash spare can see whats possible. This is something I am quite pleased about :).

This isnt a major upgrade but has improved my PC speed and game performance a lot.

Starting PC

AMD Athlon 6000+ 3Ghz
OCZ PC6400 2X2Gb
Nvidia 8600GTS 256Mb

Motherboard is a ASUS M3N78 AM2+ which I didnt change.

Money made from old parts

AMD Athlon 6000+ 3Ghz - Auction last week £46.50
OCZ PC6400 2X2Gb - Members Market £30
Nvidia 8600GTS 256Mb - Auction £21.50

Total - £98

I really had little extra cash to spend so I tried to stick close a possible to the £98.

New Buys

AMD X2 7750 - Auction £40inc pp (Now clocked at 3.2Ghz)
Geil PC8500 Black Dragon 2x2GB- OCUK B-Grade £40
Nvidia 8800 GT 512Mb - Members Market £25

Total Cost

£105

So for £7 I managed to upgrade my PC to a much better graphics card,
faster memory and CPU which clocks to 3.2Ghz and has the extra L3 cache.

mate that's awesome. i'm always tempted to see what I could get for my gear to make an upgrade even cheaper, but I keep my hardware so long I become attached to it!

Won't ebay nail you for 10% also?
and then paypal nab for for a few % more?

Always a sour taste a month later when that bill pops in, but still it'll likely only be £6 more or so.

Great work overall. You should go into second hand sales, they seem to do v v well.

Yes shame I dont have any benchmarks.. Next time I will do that.

8800gt 512s going for 25 quid now?

I also paid £25 for a 640Mb 8800 GTS. The 8800 I got didnt come with anything else but had a nice non standard cooler on with blue LEDs. Looks like a Zalman but isnt.
