Hi ill keep it brief as these must be immensly common, please rate my build and offer any advice on better (cheaper/same performance) parts.

What im aiming for is a futureproof (going to be keeping this pretty much unchanged for at least 18 months) and QUIET machine, thats going to be my everyday pc and for gaming :)

Intel 2600K £240
Gigabyte GTX 480 SOC £240
ASUS P8P67 PRO £150
Antec Truepower Modular 750W £88
G Skill RipJawsX 4GB DDR3 12800 £50
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB £42
Fractal Design Define R3 £85
Be Quiet Dark Rock Advanced £40
Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 x 3 £11
Pioneer 24x DVDRW £22

Total £1000ish

Feedback/ facepalm at ridiculous component selection?

All welcome :)

A 2500k cpu is much cheaper, and only lacks hyperthreading - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

And if you ever wanted to SLI a GTX480 card? then a 850w+ PSU will be needed ideally, if you didnt ever want a dual GPU setup in the future, then a lesser motherboard will be fine,

Well thats what im unsure about really, i could save now i suppose but is it worth having the option of a multi GPU set up in the future?

Only you can decide that, the amount of people that get specced a crossfire/sli motherboard when asking for a system build and actually carry it through later on, I am sure is a very small percentage.

But you need more watts/amps if you do,

I reckon so. You could save now but when wanting the future equivalent of a GTX 480 SOC you're going to have to shell out where as if you get a SLi ready mobo now then you can just get a second hand equivalent 480 in 18 months which would be dirt cheap and most likely still have warranty. That's how i would personally look at it.

For the sake of £40 and all the hassle involved if you did have to swap mobo's, definitely worth it!

Hmm you've got me thinking now, with seeing the 6990 at 590 now, would Xfire or Sli even be relevant in the future other than for 3D or multi monitor rigs?

Ah but good point, decisions!

24" 1920 x 1200 BUT i was thinking of hooking it up to my 32" TV...

a 32" TV will be a lot less demanding on a graphics card than your 24", im guessing you would be using it as part of a duel monitor set up? I have my 40" LCD as my second monitor, it's pretty sweet! :D
