The Acer Aspire One runs a little warm, and a small internal fan vents through the case bottom, thankfully very quietly.

Found preorders on a competitor for £199, allegedly coming in stock on the 25th.

Fingers crossed, although I'm sure they'll up the price before then.

No sign of these on OcUK yet.

Got XP on it now, haven't had too much chance to play around with it yet though.
Certainly took a while to install, and to install updates, so slow write speed could be the cause of that I guess.
Still, I've moved the swap file onto a fast SDHC card, so I don't think it will be a major issue.

Not tried it myself. I really fance a 1.8" PATA SSD, but as far as I can tell they are pretty pricey

Things on display take a right beating sometimes. I saw an EEE in a store a while back with half the keys missing.

Trust me, you're unlikely to have the keys fall off

I'll be trying this when I get home - sounds like it resolves a lot of the problems with bad write speeds on the SSD machines - basically caches the small writes to RAM and writes in one go by the sound of it.

Time for some thread revival!
I've just installed the Ubuntu Netbook Edition (10.04) on my old A110, and it runs very nicely. Seems to work fine with all the hardware, and really it seems much happier with this than it ever did with XP.
