I will update this post later with some pictures… stupid work firewall!

I'm considering this laptop over the Acer One and various others from a specification perspective, although it is of course more expensive. Anyone else thinking of getting one? Or perhaps someone has their own experiences to share regarding the other Advent models? It's a fairly new model and there doesn't seem to be much user feedback available at the moment, naturally.

I checked out both the ASUS and Advent at a local store. I much preferred the Advent. It just looked and felt much better, IMHO. I am sure others would like other makes, but I would go for a Advent. I like the 4213, though as none of the 10" range have SSD i'm holding off putting my hand in my pocket and spending the cash just yet.

its crap its hard as to upgrade the ram etc tbh asus msi or hp would be loads better!

Right... well it already has 1GB of RAM installed, unlike the Acer One (which does look like a pain to upgrade) so I doubt it would be that much of an issue. What else? Care to elaborate? :)

Even though I prefer the Advent for the reasons stated above if I ordered today it would be the Asus Eee PC 1000 Intel Atom 1.6GHz for it's SSD and the 802.11n
connection.
Then again the Advent 4213 has HSDPA 3G-enabled and the Samsung NC10 Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz looks a very good deal.

you would probably want the 2gig of ram as it would extend the battery life even further, the advent dosent look the part in all fairness feels flimsy too, where as the asus Link has a larger battery solid sate hard drive, so a littlemore reasuring however is available with a normal 2.5 run of the mill hdd, on top of this asus have basically thrown caution to the wind and said well let our user install whatever they want and not break the warrenty etc.... asus being one of the worlds largest oem manufactorers and good build quality in products it also has wireless n which is just more of a perk etc..... and drivers in both linux and xp so even if you just wanted a try its there for you .... and its also highly mod-able

edit: i just use my phone anyways, whats the point in taking your sim card out to stick it in ?

The 4212 definitely looks interesting to me. Its got all the basic specs I'd want, its got a standard HDD which is a must have for me (no WAY would I touch a laptop with SSD). Plus its got far better graphics hardware then the likes of the EEPC, One or any other Netbook I can find for that matter all at a great price.

I'd be extremely interesting in hearing from anyone who's used one of these. I'm also interested in the NC10 but the allure of the newer graphics hardware is swaying me :) I just need to know if the 4212 has a solid enough build quality, good battery life and how easy it is to use. I'm not bothered if its not flashy either, only how it functions.

please explain how the graphics card is better ?

The graphics chip in the 4212 is a X3100 which is DX10, pixel/vertex shader 4.0 unified shaders.

The EEPC, One, Advent 4213 ect use a GMA950 graphics chipset. Which is a DX9 chip with pixel shader 2.0 but no vertex shader at all (not even DX7 transform and lighting) and 4 pixel pipelines.

Basically the X3100 is the successor to the GMA950. Its still not really a fast chip but its quite a bit faster then the GMA950 and much more feature rich (in XP anyway, the vista drivers aren't too good so far AFAIH).

Unfortunately I can report that there's been a bit of misinformation put about regarding the advent 4212. It's basically an ECS G10IL. The graphics are 945GM. I know because I'm typing on one, which I bought thinking it had an x3100. That'll teach me to trust what I read on the internet.

Edit: and it looks nothing like the pictures on various retailers' web sites. But hey - it'll run me Deus Ex while I work away from home. That's what I was after anyway.
