Just bought the 6700/1070 with 1080p IPS for £1233 with 15% off code on Dell Outlet. :)

Couldn't wait for 6820/1080's to come in and 1070 with 1080p will be ok for 3 to 5 years, also if i get a LG panel it has great colour reproduction.

So initial thoughts on the 17 R4 6820 1080 I bought from the outlet.

It's a tank, really substantiable and well put together. I love the keyboard, keys are responsive and a good feel and no flex or wiggle to be found. Really can't fault the build quality although could do with more USB ports...dont get the lack of these but I've a 4 port extension dongle thing so not an issue.

Screen is the 120hz QHD. I really like it after some tweaks/calibration. There is striping but I have to get reeeeeallllly close to even notice, from normal viewing distance either desktop and games I can't notice it...was worried here but happy on receipt.

Fan noise.. .yes they fire up when gaming but not unobtrusive or annoying. All good.

Performance.. .really can't complain :D

Temp wise it's hitting 80-83 on the CPU playing WOW or Overwatch. I'm fine with that for now but will repaste sometime in the future.

Really happy with the purchase and given it's a 32Gb 2400 DDR and 512Gb .m2 SSD model and was 1800 all in...really can't complain

Well, bite the bullet last week on the dell out let.

got a 17R4 i7-6820HK CPU, GTX1080 8Gb and 16Gb RAM, 1TB m2 SSD, and a 1TB HDD and the 1440p screen. It had 15% off the outlet on the day, so I paid £1785 for it delivered, and then I emailed them to say I wanted to return it, and they knocked another £180 off, so £1605 in total

I wanted the 32gb, but I can buy more memory easy enough in the long term.

The temps and noise are not to bad, the TN Gsync panel isn't the best but for the price I can live with it, esp with the excellent warranty.

To buy new from Dell the above was nearly 3k ! due to the 1TB m2 SSD

If it's grainy check the scaling. By default it's 150%. Change it to 100% and it will be crystal clear.

Light bleed is the bezel isn't stick down correctly.

I think the panel you have is one of the new ones.

Thanks very much, yes looks better now, how do you feel it compares to the LG IPS 1080p panel they were once using?

can always get it replaced under warranty.

Thanks mate, the light bleed is still a problem, would they send around an engineer to attach a new panel?

I want to see the IPS myself, since I returned my AW17r4, I am on the hunt for what I want again. I am not sure to go large and get the best I can for around with a 1080 for £1900 or get a 1070 for £1200.

I know neither will do 4k well so I want what I buy to max out 1440 or 1080 for the next 3 / 4 years.

My QHD 17 R4 panel was the original AUO panel with striping. Logged a ticket with DELL support Monday, tech came yesterday fitted the new AUO panel..revision 1.4, original was 0.0....easy peasy, took 15mins. New panel is better and no striping \o/

+1 For Dell
