Is there already a thread for this? I would have thought there might be buy I check back a few pages and couldn't see one.

Obviously, this is for video creation. What do you guys use?

For a brief while I used a Yeti Blue -

I moved on from that to an AKG D5 -

This was quite a step up and I really liked it, but I had to keep very close to it for good audio.

I then moved on to what I use now, a Rode NT1 -

This is a fantastic mic. I gets good audio from around 10" away with very little noise at all.

I am wondering about moving to a shotgun mic though, just to clear the mic from the desk, giving me space to operate, so to speak.

The obvious choice was Rode VideoMicPro (or the Plus maybe) but I opted for the Azden SMX30. I like the idea it has two sets of mics. Mono for recording someone right in front of camera and then stereo for more general filming -

I've actually now for the Rode VideoMicPro Plus on order, I'll try them side by side and send back the loser.

If anyone is interested I can upload some samples of either of the last couple.

So, what do you use?

Can anyone assist. I've bought a Senneiser MKE2 on eBay and it's not recognised by my GH5 -

The reply from the seller is -

I’m not overly familiar with cameras but what is likely is that it is not providing the appropriate power voltage to the mic.
This is usually very low, I think the mke2 is around 7.5v. Note this is not 48v phantom power which equipment often provides - could blow the mic!

You can buy in line battery units for this kind of thing that work. Or if your camera has XLR/ phantom power you can buy small plugs that convert phantom power to the correct voltage level.
Either way you will need something that is designed to handle lavalier mics - another option is a wireless microphone system like the Sennheiser ew100.
Do feel free to ask further questions.

Does anyone know if that's correct? If so, what should I buy? I've tried googling and I'm getting a lot of unrelated items.

**EDIT** Also, got my Rode VideoMic Pro+ yesterday -
