I see it's just that the OCuk site doesn't list them as LGA2011 compatible so had to make sure considering going SB-E instead of IB for my build now ahah.

Brilliant Decided to go with the Alphenfon over the Phanteks so I can get some 20mm fans in the CM Storm Trooper when I get it I have no idea how much my build will come to if I actually manage to put together some SB-E parts xD
Shouldn't be too bad if you're going for the I7 3820. It's the motherboards that cost a fair bit but then again, the ASUS boards can be had for around £180.
Actually Ill just go IB since unless I spend £800 on the 3960x overclocking ability is quite unavailable... and I want to overclock mainly cause I enjoy tinkering with things xD
The 3820 does have a locked multiplier but you can still use a multiplier of upto 43x and you can adjust the BCLK using straps, so you're not that limited. Going X79 doesn't mean you need the 3960X and the 3820 will be more fun to tinker than IB or other CPUs with fully unlocked multipliers imo if that's what you're after.
On a drunken whim I just spent £700 on a IB basic build of a case + mobo + processor + PSU + heatsink... You are probably right but... Ill go IB regardless of what people say/think 4.6/4.8Ghz is more than enough for me
