** The AMD Navi Thread **

Well yes even if they get the hardware side of things to work without some massive latency issues, the software side of things would also have to work completely seamlessly, else it would be a developer nightmare and wouldn't get taken up easily. ( much like DX12 ;) )

Why would there be massive latency issues and why would software need to be involved at all?

Its not as if this haven't been done before, Ryzen does not have Massive "latency issues" and requires no software.

Again, the Vega GPU is already connected to the Ryzen CPU via that Infinity Fabric, connecting multiple GPU's together is easier, the technology already exists.

I think you miss understand how this works, this is not Crossfire.

Lets hope for the PC gaming industry and GPU market that navi isn't as much of a flop as what vega was/is....

No doubt it will be optimised for mining instead again though :o

Yeah Raja will have little or nothing to do with Navi, if his work is anything to go by its probably a good thing, i like Raja a lot but the last great GPU AMD made was the 290X, Raja had no involvement with that, Vega is his doing.

Isn't the design work 'his'? That's its taping out and doing its pre and production runs after he's left doesn't mean much due to the delay between designing and producing wafers?

I vote for the following:

Indeed.

Will reopen or start afresh when there is something of interest.

We have more Vega cards to come first as I understand.

I don't see any meaningful new information, nor we know when Navi will launch and in what exactly form it will be.

For locking the thread again.

Vega 64 isnt a flop though. Smashing games at 1440p, amazing with freesync and has more than doubled in value since purchase for me. Its at the higher end of the GPU market, just because its not the fastest card or the least power consuming card doesnt make it a flop. Its all subjective to where you are coming from. When you could have got the card for 450 quid, if you popped that in your potato system, you would have got more than 2.5x the performance, thats not a card i'd class as a flop.

Agreed, it's a 1080 competitor and has its strengths and weaknesses. Freesync + Vega is a good combo and will likely last a good while

If they can get Navi out asap and it has 1080Ti performance I think it'll still sell well :)

The fact it came 16 months after the 1080 makes it a flop.

I own a Vega 64, but I can quite happily agree with calling it a flop.

Things like it "Doubling in value" are loltastic as far as a measurement of success is considered.

The time it took to come out doesnt make it a flop.

Offering performance parity 16 months after the fact is hardly a measurement of resounding success.

Right now you can get a GTX1080 cheaper than a Vega 56. Again, that's not exactly booming success. You can get a 1080Ti for the same price as a Vega 64. The 1080Ti is superior in every metric.

It's pretty much the definition of a flop.

If u say so

Right now you can buy a 970 offering sameish performance of a 1060 saving you money, does that make the 1060 a flop also?

That's a bit of a strawman considering you're comparing second hand prices to new prices.

It also doesn't exactly work in your favour considering the same could be applied to the AMD Radeon 580 (Albeit with the Radeon 580 starting at a higher price point)
