The AMD R9 290 (non x) Thread

What drivers are you all using. Quick test, I stuck everything on max settings for Max Payne, Crysis and both crashed to desktop. Literally just went black and disappeared. Wonder if it's the drivers as it wasn't a "program not responding" just vanished?! Rome total war seemed fine however..

Think I'm using 13.11 beta drivers

:/

Scrap that, hard reset in TW2, pc just turned off. PSU problems? or driver related? strange thing is that the PSU ran 2 x SLI 560ti's overclocked no problem and OC i5.

Currently i5 and 290 are running at stock

When a pc just turns off then i always put it down to the PSU on its way out.

Yeah using afterburner fan at 55%

If I put fan speed to 47% It never down clocks from 947 on core Im using Sapphire 290

Any recommendations on a new PSU to replace mine, £100 ish? the money I saved on a 780 is now being used to buy a new PSU... grrr haha

Strange, I have a 650 watt OCZ PSU. Stock i5, couple hardrive and the 290 at stock, but getting hard resets in anything 3D...

Faulty PSU??

To put it in context I have a stock SB Core i5 and a pre-overclocked GTX660 with a number of drives, and under heavy gaming conditions with an ancient HX520W it is consuming under 200W at the wall. The HX520W is only 80+ efficient so is probably in the low 80% range for efficiency.

TPU measures graphics card power readings only:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_290/24.html

So,an R9 290 should add another 100W to 130W over a GTX660,and even if you add another 50W to 100W on top of that to be safe, your setup should be consuming 380W to 430W at most at the wall and in reality probably much less. I would estimate around 300W to 350W probably. If you consider that your PSU is 85% efficient, the actually load on your PSU will be well under 400W.

UPDATE

Worryingly I'm getting crashes in Arkham City similar to what happens if I Furmark it. Seriously tempted to return it for a GTX770/R280X now, I'm thinking the ST45SF is just cutting it far too close.

Just got my card!! very happy. Yeah its a little loud but not as bad as people have been making out. It is less so than the hd 7990.
I have overclocked a little and think i have it stable at 1125 on the CC and 1450 on the MC with stock volts and stock bios. Was hoping for a little more but this is fine i guess.
I flashed the BIOS with the ASUS one, everything looked to have worked but within afterburner i cant adjust it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i may have done wrong?
any help would be great

I think you need to use GPU Tweak (unfortunately).
