Except it isn't. AMD directly told PCPer that they had the "latest driver with up-to-date gaming optimisations".But is like trying to play games with a Quadro, without installing hacked Geforce drivers
They did say the RX Vega would differ from the FE, but they didn't say precisely how.
One thing we do know is that the FE is not running Pro drivers (certified, etc). They are some kind of half-way house.
Thats quoted out of context and a little twisted, its the best driver they have for it right now, not the best gaming optimisations, its also in context with what they also say is not a gamers card.
You're making a huge leap from something they did say into something they didn't say at all.

AMD told PCPer that the driver they were using "had all the latest gaming optimisations".
That's just a fact. It doesn't mean that the FE is a *dedicated* gaming card, but to say it isn't a gaming card (at all) is imho wrong.

They also said it is not a card intended for gaming, that it is a workstation card which has the ability to play games, they also said the gamers card is the RX variant and it would have higher gaming performance.
'Context' a driver for a card that is not intended use for what PcPer's reviews focused on. (It can do it, but is not for that)

Exactly, although I'm starting to think it's possible that he was outright lied too, which as I said earlier is very disrespectful to him and those that bought the card. It's all very well the card suddenly getting better performance when RX releases but what does that say about AMD's attitude for those who've had the card for a month wanting to use it for a variety of uses including gaming?
You're just playing with the wording, The fact's are that the FE has a gaming mode, It's been promoted as a card that can be used for work and play, it was previewed prior to release running a game,

No, they didn't say it "wasn't intended for gaming". Please quote where AMD have ever said that.
They said gamers would want to wait for the RX Vega, which is a card "optimised for gaming", would out-perform the FE in games (we hope), and hinted it would be cheaper (it should be!).
The said RX Vega was a solution that was optimised for gaming. I don't believe they were more specific than that - they didn't say it would, for example, use a totally different driver than the FE.
It could well be that transistors dedicated to compute are disabled, clocks are increased, driver is tweaked... and that the overall package of changes is the optimisations referred to. We already know the RV Vega has 1/2 as much HBM2 memory as the FE.

Whilst they said the RX Vega would be faster for gaming, let's be honest, that could mean anything. Could mean as little as 5% perf difference.
It is very important that people don't go into this expecting the RX Vega to be 30-40% faster than the FE, unless they don't mind being massively disappointed come August

As I just said (try reading the whole post, maybe?) that could mean anything. A measly 5% better perf from the FE in games would validate AMD's statement.
We're not *necessarily* looking at an order of magnitude difference.
So just to spell this out...
A card that cost 1/2 as much as the FE whilst being 5% faster in games would be a card "the gamers would want to wait for".
Certain posters are assuming that statement by AMD just refers to a massive gulf in gaming performance. I think that's going to be proved wrong.

Actually you can use road cards for racing on the track.
Doesn't quack very well tho does it? its slower per transistor and Mhz than a Fury-X, a lot slower.
Its iether broken or its a card that has the ability to play games but is not designed for it.
I don't know which it is, i do think to stick ones head above the parapet and proclaim one or the other is incredibly foolish.
I'd rather just wait and see.
I did not say it was a particularly good duck.
It could be worse, we could be talking about an NVidia duck which comes as standard missing a few feathers and craps on its owner.
I'd love for Vega to be an unqualified success for all of us.3 weeks until SIGGRAPH and hopefully the thread will take a more positive turn
But if that's the case I (along with others here) don't understand AMD's complete silence about the FE gaming performance. They are getting tons of criticism from forums and from the press, and they aren't doing anything about it.
Why not, if RX Vega is going to be a beast? They could be costing themselves sales right now, if people give up waiting and buy an nV card instead. We know that is happening.
