Seems a very reasonable analysis and expectation:
  • Slightly above a GTX 1080
  • Decently above it in optimised DX12/Vulkan games
  • More power use, and hotter
  • Likely nip at the heels of the 1080 Ti in a year, and in highly optimised low-level games

So yeah, if that level of performance and potential come in at £450, AMD probably have a winner on their hands.

Ram usage is interesting, 1080ti had the highest ram usage with vega the lowest, close to 1 gig difference between vega and the ti at points.

Hopefully Vega RX has come hardware limiter to cripple compute/mining performance, without affecting gaming performance :D

I cant help but feel this particular GPU launch is going to be especially price gouged at launch, even more so than normal...

Oh no these damn ******** Dwarfs

MUAHAHAHA you reminded me this

Strange you say that i now play total war warhammer and take my frustration re these sodding miners by playing Orcs and kicking them damn dwarf miners butts ....

I think theres a big difference between Ethereum and other virtual coin ecosystems. Ethereum is infact a blockchain API... one can actually build apps [smart contracts] on the etheruem infra. In fact theres more money to be made building apps on Etheruem than mining coin (thick-headed miners)

Bitcoin is popular just bcoz it was the first decentralized virtual currency that was widely adopted by non tax payers..

so i wont be concerned if vega works great with Monero.. there wont be many takers (just praying it stays so - people are latching onto any virtual currency these days).

Edit: On thinking a bit more.. i realize that there would be pent-up demand for substitutes.. like someone had a near death experience while waiting for rx580 stocks and instead blew his money on vega. and going by the current situation... there would be a continent load of people matching this description

Doom keeps being used and seems to be the only game that appears favourable (to a point) in benchmarks
Yeah why use DOOM all the bloody time, why not use one of the many other Vulkan games out there ?

:p
Are Vulkan games going to be a thing.
We got an extreme range, Vulkan is a dead end. In theory a great protocol and it will stay pristine and shiny on the shelf mostly unused by the big game studios.
The other extreme is in five years in retrospect people say how Vega was the best choice all round here, superior in performance for Vulkan and many games followed.
Does Vulkan make console to PC easier, maybe the fuss on drivers isnt pivotal, it'll be use of Vulkan or Nvidia wins with dx11 supreme for another 3 years.

I see some big names possibly opposed to the status quo. There is a potential battle between windows and steam for example, I dont know it'll result in moves that'll favour Vulkan or not.

Why do I see so many 1080ti on MM. Do people just sell ahead of a big card release in case prices drop or its just normal turn over in summer

In the long term vulkan has a much bigger future.

Its main benefit is its cross platform, so works on android, windows 7,8,10 and linux.
DX12 meanwhile is just limited to windows 10 and the xbox1.

If you only care about AAA games tho, then its possible vulkan may not get much headway there because those games many of them will be on the xbox1 and microsoft may throw some cash to the developers to get DX12 implementation.
Those of us who mostly play non AAA games, I will expect vulkan to be more widespread than DX12.
