Havn't AMD just whacked up a slide, showing that the FE will get everything unlocked, and all the gaming optimizations with the RX drivers too ?

I expect most people buying one won't be a Fury owner as they seem all quite Fury-ious.

:D

especially if they can be flashed to the 64 version,
no idea if thats going to be possable though tbh

That would be good! :p

The TDP and power characteristics are not too bad - at 210W its actually not much higher than an RX580 which is apparently 185W.

Its actually a decent drop over the Fury, but the Vega 64 in both its versions is worse than the Fury X with regards to TDP.

Fair enough, but it's a bit of a coincidence they magic up the following on the back of an AMD launch. Why wasn't this performance there previously. 3x is a lot!

"delivers 3x more performance in applications like Maya to help you create and design faster than ever"

Its not a conicidence.

The reason is AMD with their dirty marketing tricks have been trying to compare the Vega FE against the TitanXP in professional software, in order to justify the Vega FE's price. This is just ridiculous because the Titan has never been marketed for use with porfesional software, Nvidia explicitly market quadro cards for this purpose. A $800 quadro beats the Vega FE in professional software, AMD were just using the wrong cards and wrong drivers.

To counteract AMD's tricks Nvidia has simply unlocked the pro-software optimization in the gaming Titan cards, thus if AMD or some review site does comparisons then at least there is a fair and balanced driver selection.

Under this scenario the Titan is far faster than the Vega FE. Here is how a Titan with the new driver compares to the vega FE:

So for $1200 you can buy aa Titan that is much faster for gaming and much faster in Pro-software than a Vega FE.

So you don't think it is shameful of nvidia to sell a product for $1200 and then lock out features because why not? AMD forced their hand which is what competition is all about.

Overriding tessellation with lower levels will give a big boost in tessellated games, I'm guessing they didn't add that 'feature' to the FE drivers.

:D I bet you are referring to me, and righfuly so. A 1645 clocked FuryX could have been miles faster than the 1645 clocked Vega.
And some times I don't get AMD. They do not do the obvious (sell a 14nm Fiji with higher speeds and 8GB HBM1), but just re-invent the wheel (HBM2, reliance on devs to use the hidden grunt power etc)......

Yeah new wheel has rubber than wood, however we still have pebbles on the roads so while it might be comfortable, it will be as slow in pulling the chariot until the others put tarmac on the roads :p (I hope my metaphor is understood).

LOL, oh come on D.P.

Nvidia saved us from AMD's dirty marketing tricks by unlocking pro optimisations, mysteriously waiting until Vega was released before doing so(nearly a full year after Titan XP was released)

What would we do without Nvidia to save us from the Vile AMD and their cunning marketing.

I think there is one who is more Fury-ious than you!! :p

Vega 56 should at least give AMD a reasonable GPU for qHD displays or faster 1080p performance over the RX580 and if TDP is any indication of power consumption it should be not too bad for an AMD card, but not so sure about the higher end SKUs TBF.

We will need to wait and see TBH.

Image what would happen if NV would not hold tech back. Amd could close their GPU section if Vega is maximum they can come up with after 2 years...

Imho TDP means nothing. Look at the 7900X. 140W TDP and the damn thing burns more than 400W when stressed and overclocked (4.5-4.7).
While the 6950X, with same 140W TDP, overclocked (4.2-4.3) and stressed doesn't burn more than 180W.

And given how often we change GPUs, power consumption over long term is pointless. Next year we be replacing it, worst case in 2 years.

Re psu have you opened it up sounds like summit made its way in there while being at home in the draw for five years ?

Got around to looking at it - its something I've encountered before actually (and really shouldn't happen) and usually check for but as this was just a build for **** and giggles with spare parts I was being a bit blasé. I used the case screws instead of the ones that came with the PSU for mounting it and they were a few mm longer and one made contact with the PCB inside :s dunno why it worked for about 2 minutes before the short had an effect.

Jesus Christ this subsection gets worse by the day, it would make the tin foil hat moon conspirators seem sane in comparison.

Imho TDP means nothing

TDP is often misused and doesn't directly equate to power draw - also in some cases it is actually used as a figure for the amount of energy you need to remove to attain its rated operating temperature range, etc. rather than the actual board output.

I know right. The spin this guy uses is too funny at times.

Please Nvidia save us from dirty tricks of AMD, please use this opportunity to bury this filthy company once and for all so we can all pay whatever you ask of us for your future GPUs.

1060 £500? Why not
1070 £800? Sounds good.
1080 £1000? I'll take two.
1080Ti £2000? Bargain, will sell my 1080's and upgrade!
Titan Xp £5000? Thank god we have Nvidia to innovatate and brings us this performance. Will take 4. Oh and don't forget to sell me the key that unlocks SLI for another £1000 :D

At least we won't be needing a 1000W PSU to drive these cards. Money saved. Thank god that dirty AMD is gone!

Now that is out of the way. Let us get back to Vega news guys please.
