So you missed the whole issue of the pumps emitting a high pitched whine and months later after amd had claimed they fixed the problem, it still existed. It was basically luck of the draw if you got one with it or not. I had 2 cards close to launch and both had it, and nearly a year later another couple for other builds and they also had it. Plenty of youtube videos on it and tech sites talking about the issue, not sure how you managed to miss it as it was something that was mentioned in quite a few reviews.

Example

It might not sound like much in the videos but in person it was immediately noticeable and got annoying fast.

Don't think he means that while I agree the pump noise was really bad and is the main reason I didn't get a FuryX. The performance from the cooling was still excellent and kept the GPU really under control.

True but once you noticed the noise it just got irritating. Amd were marketing this as a premium card as well. =/

It was a issue with the pump in the AIO. I can't remember who made the pump. Astek or coolermaster or what ever but they had to do some Q/A to ensure other produced cards did not suffer the same issue. Problem was there was a few cards that was already produced stocked at resellers that had the issue.

Maybe you haven't looked at stock lately :p

I hadn't. I have now - OcUK have a few...at a price increase of more than 25% over what they were just weeks ago. Yay! Same for AMD cards. 1 RX580 in stock at a silly price.

It's so ridiculous that if someone told me all graphics cards fabs have developed sentience, formed a union and gone on strike I wouldn't immediately dismiss it.

Maybe I'll end up buying an Xbox One X (YZABC sillyname). It would be cheaper and it's not bad.

I blame Bethesda. If it wasn't for FO4 and a gazillion mods I'd be OK with turning settings down and making do with my 7950 until prices became sane again. Which I'll probably have to do anyway. I could pay £500 for a graphics card, but I'm not going to do so just because a ridiculous shortage of stock has led to price inflation.

Believe me plenty had it, as i mentioned i had a couple of the cards bought new near a year after release and they still suffered from it. They first of all said it only affected review samples, then this turned out not to be the case and said they had fixed it. Yet it seemed to be more luck of the draw than anything. It was coolermaster branded but they bought the units from another company. Toms hardware had an article on it http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/amd-radeon-r9-fury-x-power-pump-efficiency,review-33249.html#p9

Mate not disregarding what you're saying but people are more likely to post their experiences with a product when it's negative such as it having a issue. So it always seems there is a significant amount. You can't assume plenty had it because you don't know the numbers of ones that did not. All we know was it was a well known issue and AMD was aware of it and had to go back to the manufacturer to do Q/A to prevent newly produced cards suffering however this still meant stocked up cards still had the issues so even when AMD came out and said they resolved it there is still a chance you can buy or receive a unit with the older pump with the issue.

Not sure what AMD's stance was or resellers but they could have accepted RMAs to replace units with the pump emitting noise.

They all had it at first, A few of us here waited for restock just to find that they were still the same so I gave up and went with the Fury pro, From what I remember loadsamoney bought 3 or 4 from different board partners and they all had the problem still, so he sent them back and went with crossfired Fury pro's and became Loadsamoany. :D

"They all had it at first" - I can immediately debunk that. I had 2 in release week and neither whined.

You're forgetting the fact that at launch stock was incredibly limited. Gibbo said something like there were only around 20 units in the UK and this went on for some months. And even then with limited supply quite a few YouTube videos appeared showcasing the issue.

It's possible the ones I got a year or so later were from older stock but doubtful considering it was from 2 different retailers. Some people didn't get the issue at all even with very early units, so just reinforces what i said about it being luck of the draw more than anything.

Regardless I hope the cooler on Vega is a quality unit befitting of the price tag.

Just got a Vega FE. Going to test some fp16 optimizations tomorrow. I have a few juicy targets :)

At some point I also need to test the paging system. It is awesome that we finally have automated paging on graphics workloads. Let's see how it manages a 32 GB volume texture :)

Update: Maybe I should buy extra 32 GB RAM to test with 64 GB volume texture instead :)

I handed the board to him [sebbi] myself earlier today in Helsinki, over a beer. The joys of looking after Game Engineering for Europe. Full architecture details will come out later, can't spoil that, but it is FL 12_1 top tier for everything.

I wish they would state something closer such as 650 watt PSU gold standard from reputable vendor. Then anyone who gets a 20 quid chinese 700 watt psu with multirail... well it's their own fault when it wont work or their system goes up in smoke.

You mean a disclaimer that says don't buy a crap PSU or it may blow up.
