Nvidia actually developed Gsync as a superior alternative to Freesync (which they had been testing in their mobile solutions) so I would expect it to be better, however since AMD got involved with Freesync it has improved quite a bit I am told.

Freesync is every bit as good as G-sync if you get the right monitor. And that's the problem, The Freesync monitor market is a minefield, Henc the introduction of Freesync 2 which ensures companies like LG don't continue providing poor implementations of the tech to make a cheap buck.

Agreed. As PC gaming is my main hobby its easy for me to justify, but i totally get why people have a budget they stick to.

Exactly, we're not all rich, I mean last christmas I had to lie and tell the kid's Santa never came because they'd been naughty all year. A bit bad but hey I got my Fury pro :D

*Superior for their bank account. :D
They couldnt cash in on Freesync as it doesent have licensing fees so they made Gsync. They are going to cash in as long as people are willing to pay for same technology they could get free. Only thing it would require is Nvidia to support freesync on their driver. I just bought 32" 1440p monitor and would liked it to be freesync even tough I have GTX 770.

Vega 56 even? Or just Vega 64?

How good is a 1070 at 1440p?

I have a 980ti (Maxwell 1070 equivalent) and other than Ghost Recon Wildlands, 60fps at max settings is very feasible in all the games I've played.

Vega seems fine for max settings on 1440p at least. Cant see anyone being particularly unhappy with a Vega card.

Except the poor early-adopters of 4k monitors or folks trying to hook up their gaming PC to their 4k TVs.

Oh look, 1080s selling for what the most popular 1070s sold for at launch. These prices are giving me de ja vu. Where have I seen these numbers on an x80 before?
*remembers just before 1000 series release*

Basically what we already knew.

Vega 64 vs 1080
Vega 56 vs 1070

Problem is their pricing. Vega 56's performance could have been had 15 months ago for the same price. Basically AMD came in way late and did nothing to improve price for performance. Hence why they are going on about it being cheaper due to Freesync etc.

Think I made up my mind at this point. Skipping Vega for Volta :(

Price drop alert on 1080s!!

Still wont budge until I've seen reviews of Vega tho.
I have been/am expecting a price drop.

TBH I don't think nvidia needs to do a thing to counter Vega however if it wants to kick AMD when they are down they are in a strong position to offer a significant price cut especially as we're in the twilight of the life cycle.

I imagine once AMD become competitive in the high end market once again then nVidia will decide to magically support Freesync...

I just spent my 'vega' money on a stereo amp instead. My old amp was the noisiest thing in my setup and I really don't think Vega will be quiet enough for my tastes.

Most definitely. However this will not be for another few years at least, so no adaptive sync support by them until then.
