Any improvements in gaming doing this?Ok This now works.... I contacted MSI and the instructions on the website don't tell you this but this is the procedure:
Download "lower temperature" bios on MSI Website and extract zip file.
Right click and run the .exe file as administrator.
once the program has finished and the dos(cmd) box has disappeared reboot PC.
Re-install your nvidia drivers, ensuring select manual and to tick the box for "clean install".
Reboot the PC.
Now the newer bios will kick in.
I am pleased because even though I aim for quiet, the default fan profile could be more aggressive and still be quiet with better temps
This fixes that and retains the fan stop at non load temps, as a compare running furmark until temps leveled out:
Stock Bios temps peaking at 70 deg with 41% fan speed.
"Low Temperature" Bios temps peaking at 63 deg with 47% fan speed.
I also noted the fans spin up at 55 deg now instead of 60 deg.
This is a better fan profile IMO still qiuet but maintaining much nicer temps

In temps yes.
No faster, but then it doesn't promise such, its purely a better temps via a small increase in fan speed.
If you have a warm case and are thermally challenged/limited it may help, but I think most of the time the 3080's limitation is the power usage.

Been having some interesting testing today with my Palit RTX 3080 non OC version -

It's been rock solid in everything since day one and I haven't seen anyone posting problems with either the standard or OC vesrions.
However experimenting with different drivers I see a consistant drop of around 300 points in 3D Mark time spy scores between 456.38 and the latest 456.71 - most notably the 456.38 Studio Drivers seem to give the most consistent high scores across runs, with avg clock showing 2010 Mhz as opposed to 1995 Mhz with the other driver versions.
Now Palit have updated Bios on their website - doesn't seem to matter whether you download the OC or non OC versions and I think it's the same .exe download for all 30 series RTX - when run it gives the option to backup Bios and then I assume chooses the update based on board ID.
After update the card would no longer boost above 1995 regardless of driver - unless using Palit's "Thundermaster" OC software which allowed me to get back the perfomance.
Used NVFlash to restore my original Bios and back to previous behaviour - I'm wondering if i got lucky and got an "OC" bios originally even though it was badged as the regular card ?
I can't get this card to crash - the "auto" overclock in the Thundermaster software puts 118 Mhz on the core and 200Mhz on memory - I'm loath to push it further as I feel I'm pushing my luck, but very happy as I seem to have "won" the silicon lottery this time round.
In conclusion if you have a Palit card I'd recomend staying on your original Bios as the "new" ones seem to be more "conservative" and for high 3d mark scores if nothing else use 456.38 Studio drivers.
edit - eventually got it to fail a run with plus 130 Mhz on the core under 456.38 - changing to 456.71 and all else left same it again passed.
Even odder - removed all overclock everything rebooted to default settings with clean install of 456.71 and just recorded my best score yet -http://www.3dmark.com/spy/14453514
Core and memory speeds both boosting and holding consistantly higher than before all my fiddling about today.
I'll call that a win, but shows the ficklness of synthetic benchmarks and probably even small differences in temperature etc.

Forunately managed to order this elsewhere on Tues Add me to the list (again) please!
My Ventus went back faulty due to the crashing and the retailer was horrible with respect to putting me back of the queue for a replacement but I lucked out ordered this on Tuesday and now it's sitting in my machine
