The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

I don't think anyone has tried it with the founders yet as normally 3x8 pin card bios wont work with a 2x8 pin. This time around the fe is the card with the highest power limit for a 2 x 8 pin, so not much drive to try out other bios. Also the pcb is custom. So this may mean a stop.
However, there is a small hope. Last gen the evga xoc 3 pin bios worked on the 2x8 pin founders. They have just released a 500w beta version, so maybe someone will try this out soon.

Ah ok yeah makes sense, will be interesting to see if anyone trys it... certainly wont be me though heh.

Haha, it was a bit of a mission.

I took the PSU shroud out first - that was a pain! (ignore the PSU, new one on the way)


Then dremelled the back out, so I can fit a 3 slot card. (also dremelled the front to make space for the radiator)


Then I 3d printed a bit of plastic to support the card


Finally, spray painted the glass to hide the PSU/cables


I know I could've just bought a new case, but where's the fun in that! Most of the parts are from my H1.

What cpu are running and how are the temps?

I am gettin gpu score 18.000+- on balanced. On max perf is normal 19.000K

Threadripper 2950x at stock with ryzen balanced power plan, 3090 FE at stock.

What cpu are running and how are the temps?

3600XT 4.5Ghz All core OC. Temps hovering around 60s, highest I've seen is 68 so far. Air flow is pretty efficient.

Oh, right. Those were GPU temps at load.
CPU temps are idling just under 30 and at load around 65c.

Looks to be some driver issues with the 3090's, Gsync and Nvidia surround at the moment

Since putting in my 3090, I had been struggling with what's shown in the video, basically.. it not working and major system instability, but also it gets worse at the very end of the clip, what almost looks like the GPU is dying/dead.

The following video shows
(1) enabling nvidia surround - 2 screens go blank and the system becomes very unstable, I have to force power off.
(2) a clean boot with nv surround enabled, resulting in major artifacting on 2 screens. The only way back from this is to disconnect the screens to force it back to a single screen.

Its a boring clip though, so apologies in advance

I changed cables and tried everything I could think of for hours... but the last thing I tried was disabling Gsync, It didn't cross my mind before, since I had just upgraded from a 2080 ti that was perfect.

So, just an FYI for anybody who uses Nvidia surround and Gsync monitors and has or is getting a 30 series. If you have the above issues, disable gsync for now, it then works (without gsync ofc) and is stable.

I take it you had those monitors working in surround with gsync active on previous card?
Asking as it does look like a cable issue

Pretty sure its a driver issue, without gsync it works perfectly, so guess I just have to cross my fingers for an update (I have opened a ticket) but was mainly posting here just to let people know.

I did have cable issues when I first set it up about a year or so ago, that usually results in similar behaviour of one screen going black / flickering, admittedly, but not the corruption thing.
But I sorted that... It still didn't stop me considering though, you can still see one of the original cables dangling where I swapped them out.

Hey!

Just came upon this thread,

Received my card around 1 month ago now (27/09/2020) - Fantastic card! Been using it heavily for some sim racing games like Assetto Corsa competizone and iRacing and its been fantastic. Playing at 4K so the extra oomph has been worth the premium.

Photo is a bit awkward as its been installed for ages now but you can just about make out the 3090 on the sticker. Was lucky enough to get one of the few cards at launch.
