The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

anyone regretting there purchase? I feel like if the 3080ti comes out in a couple of months with 20gb vram ill cry, i have a 10700k 32gb but a 980ti, its a hero but its days of running 3440x1440 are over, the 3080 is the card I should get I know but the 3090 is actually available and the games I run I have to run potato mode and even then I struggle with games like bl3, suck it up and wait few more months or pay double the price of a 3080 for 10% gains :( I am so tempted too say **** it but also the 3090 feels like such a rip off at that price especially compared too the 6900xt presentation, not been this undeceive about a gpu in forever lol

nope I would buy it again in a heartbeat even if the 3080ti was also available at say £500 less. Awesome card.

it you are having to second guess your purchase then maybe it’s not the card for you?

Not valid, needs to have cobbles in the background ;)

Thought you was waiting for the Titan?? Could not stand seeing all your scores pulverised by my little mid range 3080? :p:D

I am waiting for the Titan, but I think it will be several months yet and not on a GA102 chip.

7nm TSMC and a new chip I think.

Oddly enough I have been too busy to even get those 3090s out of their boxes yet.:D

I did actually manage to snag a 3090 FE a week or so back now and "upgraded" from my 3080 FE :p I've been pretty fortunate on securing cards so I suppose I should be on this Roll of Honour now :)

dktGYdP.jpg

This is also my highest score at the moment on 3D Mark Time Spy https://www.3dmark.com/spy/15122684

Graphics Score of 21522 :D It clocks well that's for sure.

I need to stick the overclock back on my CPU at some point to hit over 20000 total score without issue.

Welcome and on TROH.:)

The Roll of Honour.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your RTX 3090

If you change the way you shop by using alerts for stock you can get 3080's easily. I've been waiting for the AMD release and benches and as soon as I saw they were on par. Waited for the stock notifications to ping - quickly went to website, got in auto F5ing queue run by the retailer and waited, after a while as no one had cleared their basket it automatically appeared in mine and I could complete the transaction without issue. It arrives in 1hour. No joining massive queue's. Some retailers aren't taking massive amounts of pre orders and list the stock that comes in each day. They are out there, daily. USe a stock sweeper such as those on messaging platforms such as discord or telegram. Easier if you work at a PC or have a job you can drop at a moments notice to action on your mobile, but alerts come through all hours of the day. First time I actually actioned on an alert yesterday, joined the auto F5'ing system set up by the retailer which if it doesnt get cleared from your basket in 15 mins, it goes to next in line. Took 5 mins and didn't have to press F5 once. Thta's the way to sell your gear.

Joining massive queue's to get a space in line and waiting months with no real stock updates, nah. 3090 - I was up for one but the paltry extra performance for double the price - nah.

Please let me know if it makes a difference. Good luck
@Paolo35!
So after nearly 2 weeks of having the seasonic 1300w power supply fitted (leaving my existing cabling in) I’ve had zero crashes/turn offs. I’ve gamed, rendered, encoded, also tried gaming & streaming at the same time. All perfect!
I’d say the voltage swings were just a bit much for the over current protection on the psu.
I’m glad it’s all sorted now.

Took the plunge and bought a TUF 3090 OC. Hopefully dispatching tomorrow.

Need to drive triple 1440p monitors on a sim rig so I need all the power I can get.

Received my RTX 3090 FE, installed it and nothing worked. Took out to ensure everything fitted snug which it did, tried again, this time the fans worked but the RTX LED didn't light up. Touched the 12 pin connector and it lite up and stated working but after a minute the screen went blank, fan's was still working. Took out, installed my old RTX 2080, everything worked perfectly. Installed the 3090 again and nothing.

I've got a Seasonic 850w PSU, I'm thinking it's probably that weird ugly Nvidia 12 pin connector. Anyway got a replacement coming tomorrow. If the same thing happens though then it's either my cables or PSU I guess. The design of the 3090 is beautiful, minus that 12 pin split connector, UAF.

Has this happened to anyone else?

If you are thinking already about regretting it, then you will. As someone who has the 3090, well aware the 3080Ti will basically be the same thing, possibly 1%-2% difference. It will probs be £1k so in effect your paying £400 premium (FE vs FE) to get 1%-2% more then a 3080Ti and to get it now. Is it worth it, depends, 3080Ti will be a mad rush once again, will sell out quick and plenty want to crack on with gaming, well at least I do with Assassins Creed, Cyberpunk etc all out now and while in lockdown. :p

So no do not regret it, its not the best from a price to performance perspective, but given the mad state of hardware in this instance did not mind paying a premium to crack on with things. That and the FE blocks as its going under water look AMAZING!

I feel the same. 10GB VRAM doesn't feel future proof enough for me, plus I do a lot of image ( and video ) editing with very large ( medium format ) files. If a GTX 3080Ti does materialise next year it probably won't be much cheaper than a GTX 3090 FE, and you can be certain there will be the usual low stock/scalper/price-gouging antics to contend with.

If I'm being honest with myself I think the AMD 6800XT ( and possibly 6900XT ) represent the best value at the moment, but good luck with purchasing one of those this side of 2020. However, I think NVIDIA's implementation of RT is more mature and I like DLSS 2.0 as a feature.

Pretty spot on gents. Missed out on the 6800 launch. Wife came home and told her (as she knew I was hawking my lunch break and got the credit card ready). Then sometime after work she suggested I get one on finance, she showed me the 3090 still in stock and was able to complete without it running out of stock. Tried my luck it went to being picked but they must go home at 6pm. Completely went from same **** day anticipating GPUs to shocked. When I get a decent card they tend to last a while so hoping this one stays strong..

Hey guys. My MSI 3090 Ventus 3x should be shipping today. It's been picked :D I'm upgrading from a 2070. I don't only do gaming, as I enjoy deep learning, so having that VRAM is a good thing. Cheaper than what I would pay for a Titan, so it's a win win for me. I'll probably use this card for the next 4 years :D. I've got a THOR 850 Watt Platinum PSU. Will that be enough?

Could be. i had a seasonic 850 watt focus gold that did not rise to the challenge. i kept having random reboots and crashes to desktop after installing the 3090. i replaced it with a corsair 1000 watt HX platinum and the issues were resolved. the seasonic was only 2 years old. perhaps it was defective ? not sure.....

Mine has been running fine on my EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2, 80+ GOLD 850W

I have a corsair 750W power supply, and its running my 3090 Strix at 480W and my 8700k at 4.9Ghz non-stop with no problems, even when both are pinged at 99%. I think you can put the power supply drama to rest.

I was only looking at a RTX3080 as replacement for my 1080ti but these were available a couple of days ago, quick man maths session and here it is :D

Check its working first then a fresh w10 install and benchmark over the weekend

If you just touched the power connector and it started working sounds like slightly dodgy connection

Arghhhh replacement 3090FE is not working period. Really odd. In exact same system as before prior 3090FE sent back was working perfect (well except whine hence going back) this one VGA light on straight away.

Plugging HDMI into the motherboard which does have iGPU and taking GPU out, no issues, motherboard output is perfect. HDMI and DP issues no change. Just constant VGA light lit white. Used both included 12 pin adaptor and custom sleeved cable, no change. Third time lucky I hope :(

Tried different screens / cables / PSU's, nada. back we go!

Two faulty units how odd.

First unit was not faulty, just loads of coil whine. People on here said they had one without whine and its 50/50 for someone who mentioned they got 4 at work (2 with 2 without) so for £1400 may as well have tried another.

This one just lights up the VGA code constantly.
