One can hope!

It would be a big turn-around in Microsoft's views towards storage on the 360, and they would have to be sure they're not opening any security holes, so I remain sceptical for now... but it would damn well be nice!

Means they'll no longer use memory units, so they can be ommitted from slim model. Often seemed silly to me that the 360 had two slots for memory units, (and less USBs than sensible) so this makes sense.

apparently you can have 2 x16 drives in usb ports. so thats 32gb + the 20gb hdd. would be fine by me

Sounds good to me. I just picked up another 16gb memory stick for £17 so 2 of those and the standard 20gb would be awesome

16gb seems excessive just for saves, a 2gb flash drive would do just as well for that.

If you read the original article on Joystiq it says :

If you're intent on circumventing Microsoft's cutthroat hard drive pricing the Xbox 360, you can use two USB storage devices for a maximum of 32 GB of usable storage; however, the console "has a fixed limit of two external USB mass storage devices" regardless of whether they're "formatted for the Xbox 360 or not." If you fill all three USB ports on the console, only the first two to be connected will be recognized.
