Right, I have avoided buying films for about 3 years as I assumed that before long there would exist some kind of website where I could have an account and the right to steam/download films that I have bought......kinda like steam has done for games.

I am considering buying all the films that I like from the apple i-store...the only thing that concerns me is the resolution of the films.....if I buy a whole bunch of films from the i-store, can I download them at dvd quality? When all films are on blu ray/ HD DVD, will the istore support that sort of quality?

Im not sure if these are stupid questions or not, spent a bit of time on the website and created an account but my questions dont seem to be answered!

Thanks

Mike

It sounds like you want a service that remembers what you have purchased and lets you download them whenever you want? That's what Steam does but itunes is different.

Once you've paid for a film you can only download it once. It is then your responsibility to backup the files somewhere safe. If it gets deleted Apple will not let you download it again. Therefore you will be stuck with the quality you originally download it at.

Whoa!

Thanks for that, I assumed that once I had bought it, I would be able to download it as and when I wanted. Damnit, back to waiting.

I assumed that was why Google bought You Tube (I think they did anyway), some kind of pay per streaming google service. Sigh back to waiting!

Alogreth, tbh your waiting for some thing which relies on the company to stay in business for ever, and will eat up all your bandwidth, it may never exist because if for example Company X sells you rights to download the film anytime and watch it, then they go out of business, the turn off all their DRM servers and bang no more movies you can wave good bye to your money.

I think you're better off waiting for a HD service like Netflix in the US where you can just rent the films when you want, after all why pay £10~ for a movie for good when you probably only watch a film once or twice, three times at a stretch, just rent it and you can rent 2 others for the cost of buying one, and that way iTunes serves your purpose.

I tried "I am Legend" when the movie store opened. Resolution is 853x354 and the sound is only two channel (ie ProLogic). I believe you only get HD res if you buy from an Apple TV. Quality is good, and stands up to watching at native res on my 32" HD Telly without any nasty artifacts.

In a word - disappointing. 6/10, must try harder Apple.
