It looks like Associated Press are partnering with AMD for using VR in journalism:

AP is one of the oldest news agencies in the world too,so not bad going for AMD. It seems AMD has been getting some decent interest from non-gaming companies for VR,like Adobe and even General Electric for its $500 million VR initiative:

AMD are really going for the VR thing, its good to see them push so hard with it, if only they had pushed this hard in the past with other areas.

It seems they are pushing for more commercial usage of VR - makes me wonder if its more the case they are thinking of another avenue to sell their commercial card??

Yeah maybe, thats not a bad thing, reaching into new areas, creating new areas.

Get in early, establish your brand, generate a new eco system in it.

They'll be pushing/improving Crossfire for at least 3 months after the Furyx2 comes out if that helps?? :D

Unless they push it as a mainly VR card....:(

I think all this "applications are endless" stuff is tryhardism from an industry that needs it to be true... just like the IoT & chip companies.

We shall see if people can be bothered to strap on a headset to read an article or tweet their morning toast.

Actually some of it is also holographics too - there have been demonstrations of it being used for teaching purposes.

smacks of trying to run before you can walk. Putting that much money in if its an epic fail then they are seriously in trouble.

The only schools that would be interested would be Acadamies because they have the money.

I was trying the new oculus prototype retail kits on a Fury X and AMD FX 8 series cpu, I couldn't figure out why the framerate was so low. I then realised no AMD cpu meets min spec for oculus... LOL. BTW the new kits are AWESOME, not perfect but still, the experiences is miles better now.

Edit: Interestingly the i5 4590 is not a "min spec" but a recommended spec, still, anything lower doesn't seem to pass the hardware test. As mentioned in their FAQ they base this spec off single thread performance.

Hence why they are probably implementing Mantle in Liquid VR.

Adobe is putting decent money into it and has partnered with AMD too.

There is actually quite a decent amount of interesting in vr stuff outside gaming.

In fact I remember years ago when I was in academia,I was at a bio-tech company for visit and they actually had some 3D stuff setup for visualisation of molecules.

It might be interesting once holographics become more viable.
