Maybe, but with the likes of Vermaelen, Squilacci, Sagna, RvP, Chamakh, Song, the first choice XI is plenty strong enough. But that never quite happens with Arsenal.

I don't remember the last time it did. Gonna say it again but it's time to cut our losses with RvP. He no doubt takes a high wage as well. Free it up for somebody else.

Edit - weird, the BBC says Cesc is out for 3 weeks until Chelsea. Cesc's own Twitter apparently says 2 weeks. Don't wanna rush him back. This isn't the business end of the season.

The Arsenal website said 2 - 3 weeks. I think Fabregas was just being optimistic on his Twitter. I still think he will play though

This is going to sound quite pessimistic, but should we rush him - even for Chelsea? It's a league game, and as much as I'd love to agree with Wenger, we're not really going for the title are we. Our squad just isn't as good, or fit (!) as the pair who finished above us last year. It's 1-4th spot placement for next year's Champion's League which is of the utmost importance.

We need to obviously get as many points as possible, and that means having Cesc fit for as many games as possible. I don't want him rushed back as he'd be vital in helping us beat comparatively inferior opponents, of which they are obviously far more than the aforementioned pair. What I'm saying is he shouldn't be rushed back early just because of a particular opponent but come back when good and ready. We don't want a repeat of what happened to another player against Barca last year.

Vermaelen and RvP are massive units. Fabregas and Diaby are hardly small and weak either.

Like Gilly said RVP is made out of glass...any little knock and we lose him for awhile and i agree with greenlizard that maybe its time we cut our losses with him...hes a fantastic player but too much of a liability for us if he only plays 20 odd games a season...even then thats at a push. I personally dont think RVP is cut out for the physicality of the Prem league.

I doubt he'll be rushed back, but Arsenal do this very regularly (which is facilitated by the ridiculous amount of injuries) e.g. star player gets injured few weeks before big game (be it Man Utd/Chelsea etc.) and Arsenal always 'estimate' he'll be fit either around match day or slightly after, but they always play. I think it is a bit to do with mind games. His hamstring isn't even damaged, it's not a 3 week injury tbh, I think they've just said so.

Plus without Fab, Arsenal will get battered

You are right with Gallas though, I think he was rushed, same with Arshavin, I do think that was rare though, Wenger has learnt his lesson

To be fair his last few injuries have been the result of tackles. That's not his doing.

But that's the point. Chelsea are even more on fire than they were last season. I think we're going to get battered irrespective of who plays. Yes if he was 'rested' for that game it's more likely, but not much more likely in my eyes for it to be worth us risking it and rushing him back early in any way.

And you know what Wenger is like with learning those particular lessons. :p

I'm waiting 'til after the City game to see whether Arsenal can beat Chelsea. If they stroll past City it's time to give up hope, but if City give them a game and Walcott, Vermaelen and Fabregas get fit, I may have a glimmer of hope.

Arsenal get lots of injuries?

Something happening off the field? Training?

It's far too many injuries to just be unlucky surely?

Wanger just buying crocked players?

The Fabregas one was a freak injury, the Walcott one was also unlucky, not sure how Vermaelen got injured, the Diaby one was a shocking challenge, Van Persie one was a tackle but not a shocker. Basically it's a mix of being unlucky and having to play Bolton and Blackburn

It isn't just that it is an important game and they will likely get beaten either way, but what game in the Prem this season will test Fabregas the most? Is there any team as strong as Chelsea ATM?

Essien is the best midfielder in the Prem IMO.

At the moment even for him, he's going through a purple patch in terms of scoring goals and pushing forward. In terms of technical ability he's right up there with Cesc - almost perfect. He's naturally more defensive minded (he's the best DM in the league by a long shot), whereas Cesc usually plays an opposite role.

In terms of him being tested I reckon Cesc could quite easily in a game be equal to Essien. Though as said, the rest of the Chelsea side are a much better and experienced tactical unit therefore Cesc vs. Essien would still not change my overall prediction. He'd no doubt want to play, they're the champions but I stand by the fact in the grand scheme of things it's better to have him fit for the 5 games after, rather than miss some more by playing on 3/10.

Carlos Vela's been banned from the Mexico team for throwing a party.

He wasn't great the other night but he has got a few goals so far this season. Always nice to see a player not play international football, particularly one with a poor travel agent.
