The BBFC are at it again..

A game like Manhunt 2 even with an 18 rating will get into the hands of kids. It's the parents brother/sisters who buy the games for the kids. So the best way to keep a cack game like manhunt from them is to just ban it.

After experiencing the first game the worlds a better off without it.

In your opinion.

Just because you didn't like the first game, means the rest of us shouldn't be allowed to play it?

If kids get hold of it, how is that the fault of the game makers?
Maybe the same kids get hold of 18 movies?
Better ban those too then!

You have to be old enough to play it .. well, the BBFC seems to deem otherwise.

It shouldn't be a case of "oh, we've banned this rated-18 game because it's too violent". After all, look at some of the tat in the movies that is basically one big gore-fest.. and a helluva lot more realistic than a 3D game. What a joke.

Unless of course it's the parent's who are buying their children (<18) the game.. in which case, that's a problem in itself.

theres violence and then theres disturbing.

Banning GTA4 though you would see a riot :)

ESRB only downgraded it in America because they get paid off by big business imo. I'm happy that Manhunt 2 is still banned - Manhunt 1 wasn't even a good game.

and again, you're glad that nobody else can play it, because you didn't like the first one?

That's not at all a selfish outlook!

there has to be a line somewhere, Manhunt crossed it, i'm with johnnyfive, BUT it should be banned for the Wii due to actual motion be used and it should be released as a 18 on other formats as button pressing doesn't represent action on motion to determine outcome within game

I think "I want to play it even though it will contribute to the downfall of society as we know it" is a more selfish outlook tbh.

:p

Theres a difference between watching and interacting. Manhunt is just mindless violence which deserves to be banned.

not really, thye first one wasnt too bad, it was also a very good stealth action game which is why i enjoyed it, the gore/violence was just an extra bonus :p

What a truthfully stupid comment.

You think that the releasing of Manhunt II would contribute to the downfall of society?

For crying out loud. The downfall of society is where we get told everything we can and can't do.

It just makes no sense to me at all.
As I said, make it an 18, slap all the warnings on there you like, make it clear that it's not for everybody, but, preventing people from making up their own minds is disgusting.

Look at the stuff like surgery programmes you get on TV, where you see blood and guts etc. Now, some people are probably appalled at this.
It's not my cup of tea either.

Rather than BAN it, because somebody, somewhere may find it horrible, they warn you at the beginning that "this programme may contain scenes that some people may find disturbing"

Do that to the game, and release it!

V1N.

the way V1n is going on about it i can see why they banned it, lol

I see what you mean ;)

But as I said before, rather than a game giving me violent tendencies, it's the selfishness of some people, that wind me up the most.

I didn't think Manhunt was a brilliant game. I did however play it through to the end, and enjoyed it, it was a bit different.
It didn't make me want to go out and strangle anybody.

Of course, I've never seen Manhunt II, and thanks to decisions made out of my control, I may well never see it, to make my own mind up.

At the end of the day, I just see it as a video game, with PS2 graphics, how bad could it be? ;)

V1N.

I think it's the dictator-esque mentality of the BBFC that is winding people up.

Is there a formal way of complaining? I doubt the press would help you, but if it's got your goat that bad then you should be able to let them know.

The people who want it WILL get it, so this ban doesn't really affect the hardcore. If anything it might create a bit of unwanted publicity for the game which will drive sales to the people who want it just because it's banned.

That's entirely the case with me.

I know I'd never have bought the game anyway, it's the fact that my choice was removed from the equation that's annoyed me.

I also find it surprising, and frustrating when people gladly give away their right to choose as well.

This subject has always been one to annoy me.
As with the example I gave earlier, people talking about any TV shows, and saying "oh, did you see that, it was disgusting, I think TV programmes like that should be banned"

That irritates the hell out of me.
The telly has an off button!

Some people seem to think that if they really don't like something, nobody else should be allowed a differing opinion, or as in this case, even be able to make their own minds up!

Just because some people may think it's wrong, and disgusting, doesn't mean everybody does.

If it was a bad game, and simply had OTT violence as a selling point, and nothing else, I'm sure it would've done poorly anyway.

Didn't they try to ban the GTA games as well?
They aren't so bad?

And I've certainly never been tempted to rip somebody from their car, jump in and drive off, before getting a prostitute in, and killing her for her money!

It's a GAME!

Games let you do things you can't do in the real world.
If you're feeling really annoyed at somebody, it's a lot more healthy to blow off steam in a violent game, than to do out and do something for real, surely?

V1N.

P.S. and I do apologise if I have gone OTT here, but as I said, this really is a subject matter close to my heart. I would have to agree that SOME censorship is required. Kiddieporn for example, goes without saying. If somebody tried to make a game, where you had to commit acts of kiddieporn, that would be truly sick, but I don't see Manhunt II as falling into that category. It's adult entertainment, for adults, who are old enough to make their own minds up!

As the old saying goes: "I disagree with what you have to say but will fight to the death to protect your right to say it."

I don't like the idea of a committee telling me what I can and can't watch. Advisories are all well and good, but bannings are crossing the line imo.

(I don't think kiddyporn is a good example to be honest because it involves the abuse of people deemed "unable to give consent")

Well the government banned most guns... and that worked out perfectly.
I'm confident that no copies of this game will make it to these shores.
