The BBFC are at it again..

A game like Manhunt 2 even with an 18 rating will get into the hands of kids.

So does porn, that aint banned. So do 18 rated films, they aint banned. Kids go drinking under the age of 18, alcohol aint banned, kids smoke under age and fags aint banned.

There are in rules in place, hence certification, age ratings and laws. Its up to parents to enforce these upon their children, its not up to some big brother style agency to tell me how or how I cannot be entertained.

As the old saying goes: "I disagree with what you have to say but will fight to the death to protect your right to say it."

Do you think people should have the right to speech that incites violence e.g. "Behead those who insult Islam"?

I don't, and how is that any different to banning a computer game that incites violence?

i dont see the point of banning it completely because like others have said you can get it imported.

mindless violence in films is still around (hostel 2 for example) so i dont see how mindless violence in games is different.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that there is a direct causal link between playing violent video games and violent behavior in the real world.

And if there were then all violent video games would be banned and rightly so. As it is we have lots of evidence that link violent computer games with increased aggression, therefore it is right that we a) ban the sale of these games to children, and b) ban the most violent games completely e.g. Manhunt 2.

I played the leaked version and cant see what all the fuss is about. It is no more gruesome than the first game tbh.

There's no soild evidence for that, and even if there was...big deal, most people have control and rational thinking to over-ride that. It's not like some average joe with no anger and mental issues...etc is going to play a game and suddenly become a psychopath then go out on a killing spree.

There's plenty of other things that cause increased aggression, should we ban those too? Ban everything that alters your mindset in a negative way. Why don't we just all take emotional supression drugs like in Equilibrium.

LOL did you even read the link I posted? You think you know better on this subject than a fellow of the American Psycholigical Society/Association?

I think we should ban football then, that causes more violence, more killings, and definitely more aggression, it's only a game after all right? This game has done more for the degradation of our society than Manhunt ever could.

Ok please link me to the part of the article in which it states there is 100% conclusive evidence that video games increase aggression.

I wouldn't have a problem with that, though I suspect that banning football would cause a lot more violence than not-banning it :D

Seriously though, football isn't the cause of football related violence. Studies have shown that alcohol is the number one cause, hence why alcohol was banned at all football grounds for few years and why it still is for high risk games - even pubs in the surrounding areas of a football ground are forced to shut. Sorry, but I think you're going to have to accept that your days of playing ultra-violent computer games are numbered.

I agree with you. i cant understand why anyone would ever want to play a game so mindlessly violent.

Ah, there we go again.

You agree a game should be banned, because you personally, can't understand why anyone would want to play it?

So, because you don't like it, **** anybody else who does?

Nice!

Sorry, you're not getting out of it that way, the scientific method rarely concludes with absolutes.

... when one combines all relevant empirical studies using meta-analytic techniques, five separate effects emerge with considerable consistency. Violent video games are significantly associated with: increased aggressive behavior, thoughts, and affect; increased physiological arousal; and decreased prosocial (helping) behavior.

My emphasis.
