Another year just about gone past, here's what I've been mostly listening too that came out this year:

Joe Goddard - Harmonics
Absolutely love this, thought his last album was top notch and this possibly tops it. Full of soulful heart felt beats and feel good music.

Confidence Man - 3am (La La La)
ChatGPT, please create an album in the style of 90s dance. This is what you would end up with.

Jamie xx - In Waves
Great follow up to In Colour.

Rüfüs Du Sol - Inhale / Exhale
More top quality tunes from Oz.

Meute - Empor
I think these guys are fantastic, now doing a blend of reworks of existing dance tunes, but also their own original music.

Also notible mentions
Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism
Elderbrook - Another Touch

Man, doesn't feel like a year since your thread last year! As always i very rarely seem to listen to albums or even be aware of their release.

Will check out the Rufus Du Sol album though. Have had them pop up on my release radar and always like what i hear

Great album from the guitar master, with Scattered being the standout track, possibly his best solo effort.
I'm a huge Gilmour fan but I was totally underwhelmed by Luck and Strange, I thought the lyrics were poor (Polly has a lot to answer for) and most of it was just like someone picking up a guitar and seeing what came out as there was no structure to it at all.

The Smile - Wall of Eyes
Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
The Cure - Songs of a Lost World

However, purely on listening time alone it would be From Zero by Linkin Park.

It took a few listens to grow on me, but i really enjoyed it. I know what you mean about some of the lyrics being a bit dodgy, but thats to be expected from PS.

It was between this and Deep Purple =1 for my album of the year. It's not a packed choice for me, as i've not listened to many new albums this year that i thought much of. I mainly listen to Rock/Prog/Metal and 2024 wasnt a vintage year in my opinion.

Crikey, where does the time go?

My Top 10:

The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She
Jessica Pratt - Here In The Pitch
Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
Iress - Sleep Now, In Reverse
Chat Pile - Cool World
Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
State Faults - Children of the Moon
Thou - Umbilical
Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown

Special mention to an album I've revisited a lot this year:

Rainer Maria - Past Worn Searching.

Mainly for the song, Tinfoil. I love it. :)

I was disappointed with the Jamie XX album, that said I didn't love his last album either despite thinking 'Girl' is one of the best pieces of electronic music in the past decade or so.

Someone recommended it the year it came out, I gave the first track a listen and thought geez this is crap. Then I came across another track on youtube (Loud Places, absolutely love it) and thought I would give it another go, now I even think that first track Gosh is great (the original video is decent as well).

It's been a really good year overall and I've made 77 purchases. That's 54 releases plus 23 (so far!) of the King Gizzard live gigs from their recent tour.

Top 10, left to right.

From the list its easy to see you are a metal head.

Mine I think goes to Opeth - Last Will and Testament.

Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere is good but its really the first song that stands out.

Hah, I have been known to partake, yes! Though I do like a lot of different genres.

I had high hopes for the Opeth album, but it didn’t really hit for me like I was hoping. It’s by no means bad, but I got pretty distracted by the new Hidden Mothers album, which I’m tempted to add to my list.

I see the Blood Incantation album as one track, so I agree :D

I don't think I've listened to many new, released this year albums and some of them I haven't thought a great deal of (Lauren from Chvrches solo album was merely ok, new The Warning album is not their best)

Stuff I have listened to this year and thought was very good:

Linkin Park - From Zero
A real return to form on their return. Casualty is the only track on there that I don't think feel very Linkin Park. The first three are some of the best songs Linkin Park have done since their early days.
Zeal & Ardor - GREIF
First impression of this was confused, it's quite the change in style from their last album. Nowhere near as heavy and a lot more clean singing. It has realty grown on me though.
Poppy - Negative Spaces
From less heavy to...too heavy? Poppy has gone very heavy, a little too heavy for my taste on a few tracks but the rest is brilliant. Also the song she did with Bad Omens was one of my favourite songs of the year.
Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
Friend got me into this due, dreamy synth pop goodness
Aurora - What Happened to the Heart?
Checked this out after enjoying her Glastonbury performance and it's a damn good album
Blackbook - Radio Strange
Don't really know much about them, they don't even have a wiki page. It was highly recommended on a synthpop website I check out and they're right! Very good album.
Incubus - Morning View XXIII
This one is kind of cheating but I really enjoyed this. A re-recording of a classic album, some interesting changes and obviously it's still a great album.

Blimey that is a lot, any of them you'd really recommend?
I don't think you can go far wrong with any of their sets.

I haven't listened to them all yet, but perhaps Red Rocks Late show 09.09.2024 (tracks 37-55) with it's 'Perihelion' > 'Flamethrower' opening salvo. Really enjoyed the Washington DC 15.08.2024 set, opening with 'The Dripping Tap' and with a great selection of material across their Nonagon Infinity, Ice, Death, Planets, Polygondwanaland and PetroDragonic Apocalypse albums.

That Incubus album... Omg, why did that need to happen? The original was perfect
