Has anyone been seeing the 'The Best Army' adverts about. Asking people to send in messages to the British army saying how they helped them?

I'm not sure how some of these people have sent in their requests (really quite puzzled about that), but their messages are really quite nice, and i think that even if it is a bit of propaganda going on its nice to see things like that at a time like this. To show people why we have an army and how , in the best of times, its used effectively?

Opinions?

Oh and do you think America could get away with anything like this?

I don't think America needs anything like this to be honest, they seem firmly behind their armed forces as opposed to here where support for ours is somewhat less. These adverts were made to try and redress that

You do still have to deal with the problem that squaddies generally do not have a good reputation, and often start fights etc.

People don't really seem to get this.

We really should have an Armed Forces day.

Ye I agree, I'm very anti-war, but the troops are essentially just workers that have a job to do, a really hard one at that. Its the people who make the decisions are to blame.

Once we turn on our troops we have our own Vietnam.

It's not about whether you support the conflict, it's about supporting the troops who are doing their job, and doing it well. I'm not a fan of the invasion of Iraq, but that's a whole other debate, I will however defend the troops who receive undue criticism. They promise to serve the government of the day, they can't pick and choose conflicts, if you don't agree with where are forces are sent then petition your member of parliament, don't knock the troops. You can be anti the war and still support the troops, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

My thoughts exactly, I may have reservations about the conflict itself. But I have nothing but respect and support for our troops out there doing a hard job.

That they are, Busch-Anheuser give free admittance to their parks for any serving armed forces personnel and their family. Also most restaurants give discounts if you show your Forces ID. Over here, most people don't seem to care at all. As I'm flying to America this weekend I was doubling checking the baggage allowance on the US Airways site and it stated that anyone in the Forces who has been on leave for under 7 days can have 2 pieces of checked baggage weighing up to 46kg each for free.

Yes, but the Yanks' campaign would look more like this:

That is refreshingly intelligent :)

I feel sorry for the troops out there, seems like another Northern Ireland for them only a lot worse. After watching the American troops reactions to killing, they say its like playing a computer game. That scares me a little. I support the troops as much as I support anyone doing their job.

I saw something like this on youtube, is scared me to hell. I'll try and find the clip. Was of some US Marines.

Sorry, but I support the troops slightly more than my postman....! etc.
