So i am looking for a new OS for my netbook...ive heard a lot about linux so i thought i would try it but i have no idea which one to download...mint,ubuntu etc.......so any help would be great.
Thanks guys

If it's your first reall look into linux you can't really go wrong with Ubuntu and the netbook remix is quite good for netbook's.

If on the other hand you are wanting to learn linux properly and want a good balance of control over what programs and systems are used mixed with easier than usual setting up then give Archlinux a try, it isn't for everyone but if you follow the guides in a couple of hours you can have a distro perfectly suited to your exact needs.

Ok cheers guys....ive just been reading about 'Jolicloud' anyone got any expereiene with it? and thanks uncertain i will have a look

i had my first travel into linux yesterday and went with Ubuntu..

Never even heard of it

If you want to go experimental on your netbook you could try Moblin, Ubuntu Remix and Mint. Moblin is a very different OS, built from almost the ground up to suit Netbooks, cloud and Social Networking. Ubuntu is a standard distro formed to suit the size of screen and common uses of a small low powered machine. Mint is the best looking Ubuntu based distro to give you a feel for proper Linux. I know Moblin and Ubuntu will run of a USB Drive for testing, not so sure on Mint though as I normally use it on desktops so download DVD images.

Good little guide on Netbook Distros here:

I've just installed Eeebuntu 4.0 (Beta) on my Asus 1005HA and very impressed with it. Previously used Crunchbang on my 700 which was good, but editing config files by hand on the little screen/ keyboard wasn't fun. Ubuntu should be fine, with or without using UNR.
