The best free benchmarking app.?

What aspect of your PC do you want to benchmark?

Basically I am asking you if you want to benchmark your systems gaming ability? Or media rendering? And so on, no one benchmark will do all things.
 
Ok what you are looking for is a diagnostic tool. That is not quite the same thing. But no problem.

Memtest86 is what you need.

Burn the ISO to disc and run from boot up.
 
If your checking the memory for errors get a bootable memtest86 distribution (it usually comes on/with most ubuntu/debian based installations IIRC so you should have the boot option)

Stream is a good benchmark for memory IIRC it comes in different OS flavors too.
